This past week I was fortunate enough to be granted the opportunity to attend the Naval Academy Summer Seminar as well as the Air Force Academy Summer Seminar. My dad and I decided that I was going to attend both. I understand this it's going to be a challenging couple of weeks. That being said, does anyone have any advice for me and anyone else in the same boat? Thanks.

Congratulation on getting into both Summer Seminars!

Last year, I was fortunate enough to go to both. USAFA's Summer Seminar was more of an eye-opening experience that focused on the admission process itself with alot of briefs and classroom tours. At NASS, you will experience more of a cadet's life, where you wake up really early and do pt everymorning. Honestly, I really liked USNA's SS much better because it was very physical and felt like I went there for a week. But, USAFA's SS really helped me on what to do right when I went home for the admission process.

One advice I would give is to prepare for the CFA, if you have already started. You will get to do the official CFA at USNA. If you get a score you like, then you already finished one part of your application. But most importantly, if I could go again, I would have went with being less serious about it. Do not stress over the Seminars. Go there with an open mind and just have fun.

Recap: work on your push ups, pull ups, and mile run; and just go have fun when you get there

Hopefully, this helped and good luck on your future application process

That's really helpful. Thanks. One question though, you can take your official CFA there? And then not have to do it later?

DD did three SA summer experiences in three consecutive weeks. It can be done. But very important that in the 1-2 days between each session, you get plenty of rest and sleep. Don’t use it to go carousing until the wee hours with your buddies back home. Replenish yourself physically and mentally, so that you don’t wear down at the next session.

Finally, use your multiple experiences to see which tribe feels most natural to you. As you mingle among the cadets/mids, ask yourself, “are these my people?” That will go a long day to determining fit.

Yes, you can take your official CFA at NASS. If you pass and are happy with your score, then you don’t have to take it again.

Thanks. What you said about the tribes was interesting. Do you mind elaborating on that? What are some of the differences between the two?

Each military branch has its unique mission. Consequently, each one also has a distinct culture — with its own set of values, folklore, mores and traditions. Hence, “tribes.”

If you’re like most, you’ll feel a greater kinship with one tribe over another. That’s a good sign that this is where you belong, not just for the academy experience but also in active duty.
