New Student Indoctrination (Summer 2019)

What do our kids travel in after the graduation? Uniforms issued? They only had the kids who fly in pack an extra set of clothes for today. I haven’t seen anything posted about this or instructions on what to wear.

I am quite certain they will be expected to travel home in the clothes they arrived in.

Word is the only uniforms issued are those they need while here and the rest will be rec’d once checked into their unit this fall.

I assume they wear home what they wore to NSI or that extra they were instructed to travel with/ bring if flying today. I would expect they are doing their laundry while at NSI. We dropped our daughter off this morning. She quite literally has the clothes on her back. That said, our daughter packed a bag for us to bring when we come pick her up so she has comfy clothes for the 10 hour drive home after graduation.

For those that are interested... We are into the exceptionally steamy and wet Chicago summer season. Heat index was 108 last I checked a few hours ago. Starting this evening, we are scheduled for 10 straight days with high heat, high humidity and thunderstorms. It will not be comfortable.

Still... the weather will create a bonding experience for the candidates. Most likely, they will PT early in the morning prior to Black Flag conditions. Their may be put to bed earlier and woken earlier to avoid some outdoor training in the heat of the day. The Great Lakes staff is used to training groups in these conditions and will watch for any signs of heat distress. The students will wilt but be better for it. We used to say "it will put hair on your chest" but I don't suppose that phrase is used in the mixed gender training environment. ;)

So much for telling the kids to report with hair within appropriate Navy grooming standards. Those kids heads are shaved and I'm pretty sure they didnt all report like that.

Nope! My DS got a (very short) regulation cut on Sunday, and what hair he had left after that is all gone.

My DS school didn’t graduate until this last Saturday. He had a very short regulation haircut and watching the live stream we saw that he is bald now.

Getting your head shaved is part of the training process. Were it me I'd still rather show up with a regulation haircut even if it's going to get buzzed. Besides those are the instructions. They never said they weren't going to cut it further. It grows back.

Are khaki shorts and collared shirt appropriate to report in for NSI?
I would think so. When I went to OCS in Quantico years ago and the liberty attire for all candidates was a collared shirt, khakis, or trousers. Given the heat in Chicago, khakis probably preferable.

But the shirt had better be collared... not that they are going to crucify anyone but I'm sure they'l get unwanted attention if not in a collared shirt.

Any intel on the Q&A?

I was told they leave in their graduation uniform. What they wear once they leave Great Lakes is up to them if they are with family.

Any other information you can offer from
The Q&A would be appreciated. The livestream showed it was still going on after the kids marched out but it was black. We didn’t get to hear any questions.
