Normally, NROTC 4 year applicants are in separate pools from College Programmers. Even though there are about 100 MIDN 4/C who are in the running this year for the 4 year scholarship, by the time they complete their DODMERB screening it winds up being a 3 year scholarship. With COVID restrictions last year, there were quite a few schools where SAT and ACT were not offered. Letting the MIDN 4/C try to reapply for 4 year was a way to see of their college grades were good and if they were a good fit in the program. I don't know if that will be repeated in future years but we will see. But the total number of those 4/C applying for 4 year is somewhere around 3.5 %.One more question for Captain MEYERS (all the "e's" intact) - any rough estimate of the number of applicants who are CURRENT NROTC students versus those applying NOW to be in NROTC? I didn't realize they were all competing for the same scholarship - is that half the pool? Less? Also good to know as kids can join NROTC and if they stand out, can apply "again" if needed if they are dedicated. I just would have thought they would be in separate pools...
I am going to take a leap of faith and think Mr. Mullen will recommend your son send him an emailHmmmm, what if the candidate already had their DoDMERB from their Academy app from last year, and had a waiver approved there - which has translated over to this year's application as well? Probably a better question for Mr. Mullen.
I know each school/source must approve any necessary waiver on an individual basis, but the DoDMERB file is still complete and intact. Hopefully that moves things faster.
(As you may tell, I'm pretty anxious to see if the Spring semester can get picked up to make my son's a 3-1/2 year one!!).
Edited to add: I posted the DoDMERB question over in the proper forum.
When you say you "just noticed" do you mean you check it every day and it just changed? Or do you mean you haven't checked in a while and now it shows application complete. I ask because if it just changed, then no, your record would not have been viewed by this board.I just noticed that my status changed to application complete and "No decision has been made.." I submitted everything by 1/28/22, but the portal was very slow to update and my Technician appeared to be overwhelmed with the volume of information he was receiving as he provided another email to send missing information to. Received an email from him yesterday that he was going to audit all applications for missing items. I assume this means I missed the Feb 7-11 boards, or does it mean that my application was reviewed and rolled over to the next board
Dear Capt. Meyers, Thank you for responding. I checked it yesterday. I had my interview last month and it showsWhen you say you "just noticed" do you mean you check it every day and it just changed? Or do you mean you haven't checked in a while and now it shows application complete. I ask because if it just changed, then no, your record would not have been viewed by this board.
And, have you already done your interview with someone? If not, that deadline for final submission is 15 Feb (next Tuesday). Theoretically, you can have a submission in to the system but pending an interview. It sounds like you sent paper records to your technician? Otherwise, if it was submitted digitally, the software program does its own audit.
I hope it works out for you, but please make sure that interview is done and uploaded, or the package can't really go forward.
Then I have high confidence your package is sitting in the bin, and should be in front of the board on the second half of this month. And now the hard part, you wind up clicking "refresh" more than you ever thought you would.Dear Capt. Meyers, Thank you for responding. I checked it yesterday. I had my interview last month and it shows
- All required items have been processed.
Just before Christmas my son was contacted by the CO of the NTAG that he has worked with. He was congratulated and told he had been awarded an ISR. It was his understanding that the package would be sent to NSTC for a final review to make sure he had met all the requirements and that more information would be forthcoming. Also expecting an email to schedule his DODMERB. He has not received anymore information. Dad is getting impatient. Son is reluctant to call his PO that helped him thru the process. The congratulations that got sent around when the ISR was awarded led me to believe the NSTC review was just a formality. Has anyone had a similar experience? Maybe you could shed some light as to how long the process should take. ISR (Immediate scholarship release) not so immediate. Thanks in advance.
Anxious father.
I shifted my info over to the thread Remaining NROTC Boards. Just figured this one was getting really long.Captain Meyers - any updates on notification time/day for this week? Thanks as always!
Have you heard anything this past week. My Son received a similar request for a teacher recommendation. The request was made to his recruiter but he was CC’d in. The recruiter told him he would take care of it. His status remains the same as yours. Sounds like the process takes more time then you and I would like but, it’s probably working it’s way through. On the thread Capt Meyers mentions below he has some useful numbers and gouge on how many ISR the Navy plans to award and how many are still awaiting processing. It’s over 60% still outstanding. Hang in there. I’m sure things will work out.TLDR: NTAG CO endorsed my package for ISR in September, no scholarship offer yet.
When I initiated my process last September, my recruiter told me that I'm being considered for an ISR depending on the outcome of my interview with the NTAG CO. Interview went well, and the CO told me he is endorsing my package for an ISR. He had to submit Top 20% waiver as I barely missed the cut, but he told me he recognized my school is very competitive (overseas international school) but everything else in my package looked good. Recruiter told me the package is being sent in time for the October board but should just be a formality. A week before the board status said it's at CNRC with nothing missing. During the week of the board, it's still at CNRC but now states missing grades, transcript, Debarment and SOU. Recruiter was confused too as he told me everything in my package was submitted as that's what's showing on his end. It remained that way until first week of January 2022, when status changed to package at NSTC. But then I got an email from NSTC asking for my Math teacher evaluation. Apparently my Junior year Math is not being considered Math by NSTC. So I had to resubmit using my Senior year Math teacher recommendation (good thing the semester just completed). Since mid-January my status states it's at NSTC with nothing missing but no decision at this time. I'm starting to believe my Top 20% waiver was shot down along the way and I'm with the regular pool of applicants. Grateful for CO endorsing me for an ISR, but I missed the previous boards when my package was held up at CNRC.
