Yes, the boards are similar but they are held much more often and are not at all synchronized with the MO boards. There are only 2 MO boards.
Keep in mind that the participants on this forum are only a small percentage of the applicants or awardees for that matter.
If you are not awarded a scholarship by a particular board, you will be automagically rolled over to the next board. You may not hear a positive or negative reply until mid-April. Be ready to execute Plan B, if necessary at that time. There will be further opportunities to be awarded a scholarship while participating in NROTC, if you decide to enroll without a scholarship.
\Curious if anyone has heard about selection for the Navy scholarship, other than the MO? I think they are similar boards to the MO but haven't seen many threads about selections.

@kinnem: typo or not, that is an awesome word!
Son applied late November and he was selected on the 12/10 board. He received official notice a week later.
My DS did not hear he had the NROTC scholarship until the very end of April last year. He had everything completed in early December. Stay positive for what could be a long wait. Good luck!Curious if anyone has heard about selection for the Navy scholarship, other than the MO? I think they are similar boards to the MO but haven't seen many threads about selections.

Bravo Zulu!Don't know if this helps or not. Son applied in mid September for NROTC 4 year, non Marine option and found out mid October he got it. Medical is completed so now we just wait for official ok from DODMERB I guess. Good luck and I hope you hear soon.
Thank you! He has been qualified and accepted so all is a go. Heard from 4 schools so far and waiting to hear from the rest to see where he will attend.Bravo Zulu!Don't know if this helps or not. I wouldn't say that's necessarily accurate, as least for Navy option. You could have your application in and ready for the September board, but not hear anything until late April. If you are not selected on a board, you are rolled over to the next board and reviewed again. You would be reviewed on each subsequent board until you are either awarded a scholarship or denied. If you are rolled over to the next board, you do not get any notification. Denials seem to start coming out in February and awards and denials are completed in late April.NROTC operates on "rolling admissions" basis similar to USNA. Candidates who have completed their apps prior to first board in Sept typically are notified in mid October. Everything adjusts after that. Don't give up the ship!
