NROTC scholarship notification

Do you have any idea when the notifications for the sideload or advanced standing marine option notifications will go out? I believe the deadline for the material to be in was in the last week or so.

I wouldn't expect to hear until late summer. Perhaps late July or very early August. That's been the experience of folks I know going through the process in the past. As long as it's before one heads back to school then it's good enough... or I'm sure that will be their attitude anyway.

Timing of notification?

I do not want to raise false hope in those still waiting for notification, BUT my daughter received her YES notification of a NROTC scholarship on April 29 of 2012. She was a TIER III applicant.

Even at that late date, with online university access to deposits and financials, you can still place a deposit or request a refund depending on your situation. Have alternate plans in place, but there is still a chance.

The waiting game is what led to my log-in name for this site!

Good luck to those still waiting!

It has been quiet for a while. Has anybody heard anything? I have been trying to call our local recruiter for the last couple of days but it always goes straight to voicemail. Are they still notifying applicants?

Nothing here. DS has to contact Pensacola to make a school list adjustment so maybe he can glean some info when he emails them.

Got a TWE from the USNA yesterday, and one from the USAFA today. We really could use some good news soon. Hoping for the NROTC scholarship NOW!

Still hopeful in NEFL for an NROTC. Haven't heard from USNA either but dim outlook.

Question about updating schools: Is it best to update or just wait and see and hopefully transfer the scholarship if you get it?

Has any MO NROTC been notified in the last few weeks?

If so, I would appreciate you posting a status update. DS expectation was that something would be announced this past week and he has heard/received nothing as of now.

Marine Option scholarship...

My DS received an email from his officer recruiter (one of the 3 Marine Officers that interviewed him) during the first week of March. Basically it said that the board had met and results would be made known "in a few weeks." Nothing yet.

DS also updated schools yesterday. Portal changed but status has not. Still waiting and it's getting late in the process. A couple of schools that my son is waitlisted indicated that admissions would review his application again should he get the scholarship....would be nice to hear soon!

DS applied to USNA and six other schools, all of which have NROTC, was accepted at 4 of the six and is waiting to hear from USNA and one remaining school. Three of the schools have offered him a spot in their honors colleges, and two of those are engineering honors programs. He completed his ROTC application in December and had an interview in early January. He said that the officer who interviewed him told him he didn't understand why he was bothering with ROTC because he would surely be accepted by USNA. In February a different officer contacted him by email and told to go to the local recruiting office to complete forms related to drugs, debarment and "understanding." I may have that wrong, but he said it took just a couple of minutes to complete the forms. He completed the forms. Until today his portal indicated they had not been received. Today he can't even log in. The site states that the 2014 application year has been closed. When he has called and emailed his contact (an officeer, I believe), the contact says he's working on it. Today, no answer (yet). While USNA is his dream, we're trying to be realistic and figure out the other path he may have to take. He doesn't seem to be able to get any answers. Is there something we are missing? I hope I've posted my question in the right place.

Just spoke with a LT Commander at DS's recruiting office about his NROTC Scholarship application. His application has been complete since September and the "No Decision" status has remained the same since then. The LT Commander said she would check DS's file and see if they showed anything on their end and call me back tomorrow morning. She also said that a "No Decision" status and the fact DS hasn't heard any news doesn't necessarily mean bad news is on the way (I hope not). According to her, the last board will meet around April 15th and final notifications will go out late April/May. She said after that the board is already greaing up for the new application class.

I hope DS receives good news soon - he's already been accepted to all of the schools where he's applied.

rocatlin or mkjw, do either of you know if the MO NROTC decision will show up on the portal? Or do we get something in the mail? (I hate the mailbox at this point - that TWE from USNA did me in...)

So does that mean if there has been no news yet that the earliest we will hear is the end of April? Nothing coming out this week?

DS is in the same boat....."no decision" since September. He just tweaked his school list and they could not give him any idea when he would know anything about his status.

For what it is worth, my DS's notification was 3 years ago, but he found out first on the portal followed by the hard copy several weeks later. This was in the December timeframe. So with a data point of one, I would make sure to keep checking the portal (and that mailbox!)

Good luck

DS portal still says...

Application has been submitted online
Your application is at the Marine Corps District for Board Selection

I hear conflicting reports, but the general consensus is that the portal is "often the last to know" especially on the Marine Option side.

DS is also waiting to hear from USNA. Yep, we're on that other thread too. :)

Thanks. DS' portal said the same "...application is at the Marine Corps District for Board Selection" yesterday.

good luck on the island today, rocatlin!

Just received the follow up call from Navy recruiting office (Houston, TX area). Was told DS's application is going back before the board and it is a very positive sign; however, not a guarantee (DS's application has been complete since September and his portal hasn't changed since then either).

The chief said that some of their area candidates turned in applications near or on the application cutoff date and some of those candidates already received rejected notifications (a friend who goes to DS's high school received his rejection notice in January). The chief also confirmed that April 15 will be the last board review so scholarship awards can come out anytime between now and the end of April/May.

Good luck everyone!

In our case, the portal was the first to know...followed by letter a couple weeks later. However, DS was offered NROTC ISR back in Nov and it took till about January for the portal to reflect.
