Official USAFA Class of 2016 Appointment thread

Our MoC said that our DS will hear from USAFA before the 15th, so maybe there will be some appts. go out this, and/or next week. SMNE...

It's kinda like doing the hmmm..."bathroom dance." :bounce:
Just can't wait to get some relief!

OMG!! I'm going to have to buy a case (or two) of 5-Hour Energy to get through the month. Today is only 7 March . . .
There will likely be some BFE's mailed today, and also next Weds, the 14th, as well, but I just think the bulk of them will not be mailed until the 21st and 28th.....

I wish your DS all the best, and hope to hear your good news soon!

Did your son have a principal nomination? I was just curious how the MOC know.

DS had only one congr. nom for USAFA. that's the way Texas rolls, one nom per candidate...BUT then he got an LOA from USNA, but no nomination. DS e-mailed our MoC about perhaps getting a USNA nom. Our MoC academy representative, Jackie, is frankly a most awesome person. She told DS that invariably a candidate or two will either decide to take another path, or be medically DQ, and if a nom came available for USNA she would do her best to get DS offered an appt to USNA with a congr. nom. That happened just this past week and he's been offered an appointment to USNA. That being said, DS first choice is USAFA, but his choice between the two is pretty close. He'd be happy and successful at either one. We are being the mailbox stalkers though because I'm a terribly MEAN person, I want to do some kind of practical joke with it and take pictures, and then post it on FB:shake:

Congrats with your DS! Playing this waiting game is nerve-racking... I'm really needing some ground to stand on right now. Thanks for all the help and support I've been able to find on this wonderful forum!

USNA

I read somewhere else on the forum about a family where BOTH parents are USAFA grads, but their son did not get an appointment. (Maybe it was for Class of 2015.) Their DS got an appointment to USNA and is really happy.
I bet their family has fun during football season! Sounds like your son will have two excellent choices for a bright future. :shake:

Sounds like ours, my Wife was Alabama, I gradded Arkansas, and my son is a huge Auburn fan... House divided! (or trifurcated)

Now add USAFA to the mix...

Best

profsparrow,

Your story reminds me of a friend's story that happened back in 08.

CO is as competitive as TX regarding the one nom issue. Their DS had AFA and USNA on their list. They got a phone call too. He got the apptmt to the AFA, but wanted the USNA (disappointing to Dad because he is an AFA grad), the other appointee got USNA, but wanted AFA.

The MOC talked to both, and flipped the appointments. He will be commissioned an O1 this spring from the USNA. She will be commissioned O1 from the AFA.

It does happen.

Plan B could easily become Plan A. It will be a difficult choice for DS, if he gets to make a choice. As his parents we're helping him to research USNA vs. USAFA. He's searching pretty well himself but has limited time because of school and all the UIL and community involvement he has. He hasn't played any computer games in over a month! Poor kid :frown: Not that he's complaining, he's just that busy.
We could have the same issue as Romad. If DS didn't get an appointment he was going to go to Texas A&M. Our DS may possibly go to U.T. for graduate school to be a pharmacist. So who would we have cheered for? Of course with the realignment that wouldn't be an issue now.

USNA has a beautiful campus at Anapolis, MD. Also, if your DS had dreams of going to USAFA to become a pilot, he could also fly for the Navy.

I hope his biggest problem is too many choices.

DS isn't really all that interested in being a pilot, although he's not averse to it. His main interest is in learning to build jets, engines, spacecraft, and so forth. Plus he's a pretty big fella. I think he might fit in a fighter cockpit, but not sure.

Flieger and others can advise him on how to slouch properly :shake:

I've noticed that too...Kinda expected some BFE posts this week. I'll bet next week this forum will light up like a Christmas tree on steroids!

Yes, too quiet!

I thought BFEs would start to trickle out into mailboxes this week -- at least! But I keep reminding myself that there are many applicants who aren't (or whose parents aren't) stalking this forum. We are really just a small percentage of the parents. Some states don't seem to be represented at all. Maybe some of those who are not on the forum are getting the initial trickle of BFEs, and we are going to all be in the bulk mailing next week. :shake:

Remember, historically only about 10% of all appointees are members here. A class of 1050, means @ 105 posters at the end of the process. Last new appointees received 2 Mar. 7 days later would mean a couple more will come on today or tomorrow.
