Now I know that there are so many happy families, relatives, friends and future cadets this week. It is so wonderful to see the GREAT NEWS being posted by so many of you. Our family is happy for all of you and will continue to pray for those waiting for the GOOD NEWS.
Our best to all of you.
We especially think about those still waiting...

Anyone with an appointment have the status page reflect that? Or is that changed after the BFE arrives?

Congratulations to all who have received the Great News this week!!! I'm sure there will be more excitement as the week continues. We contine praying for all who have not heard anything yet.

An Appointment is an invitation to attend the Academy. There is no interview. That being said, ALL Appointments are conditional on the Appointee maintaining their grades (a "D" won't kill you, but you might have some explaining to do) and their medical status (hence the running joke about bubblewrap). Meet those conditions and show up on I-Day and you are in.

Best wishes. :thumb:

EDIT: And stay out of trouble with the law.

Thanks dad. Appreciate it

Thoughts on the TWE

Let our prayers be that BFE's and the TWE's go to the right people. I have read that up to 1/3 of the appointees do not complete the four years, and while for many the 1-3 year experience was positive and the source of many lifelong friendships, for many others the experience was negative. My DS has very solid qualifications...not rock solid.... but certainly enough for him to get an invitation, but there is still that element in the back of my head that questions, "is this the right thing for him". I take comfort in knowing that God works all things for good to those that love him and call upon his name", so no matter if it is BFE or TWE it will be for his benefit. I also have been impressed with the rigor of the process and am thankful that the USAFA has a very good idea of the right type of person for the USAFA.....if it is not my DS then it may be he is made for something equally important and equally good, perhaps even the patience and humility of trying again next year. It will hurt to get a TWE, but be thankful for the experience, trusting in God for the best, and trust that the USAFA knows what it is doing.......... and I admit, (I am writing this mostly for my own nerves)

We are in the Black Belt Region (named for the color of the soil) about 45 min SW of Tuscaloosa. By sheer coincidence, my son's girlfriend has many relatives in Opp and visits there all the time! You're not a Speegle by any chance are you

That would be too Twilight Zone...

Not a speegle. My relatives are the Cookes but only 1 family is left there. Funny coinkidink though. My son will be driving through your area next year when he is on his way to and from Oxford (and ATlanta) . Look forward to meeting fellow southerners! Your posts have been very funny. I have enjoyed them. Good luck to your son. Are you on the USAFA class of 2016 facebook page?

Well, this year has been quite a ride! We are still on a high at my house, although my DS has been kind of quiet - just smiling a lot. What was really special to me is that DS thanked me several times already for supporting him through the complicated SA application process, making the call this week while he was in school, scheduling appointments in the fall while he was at football practice, checking his portal for updates, driving him to interviews, and just being supportive. He went to SS last summer and we scheduled our vacation around it and football camp, which was no small feat, since DH and I both work, and we also took a trip his junior year for an orientation/football weekend (v Utah?) so DS could spend the day with a cadet and see what USAFA was like.

This all stemmed back to an initial conversation we had when DS announced his desire to apply for ROTC and USAFA. He's an only child, so we were actually hoping for ROTC at KU, which was his Plan B and is ready to go for this fall. He could break away gradually then , since the 3 of us are pretty close. I told DS not to go to a SA, not because it wasn't close, but because college should be fun too, and SAs could be grueling. But DS said - that's the best place to go if you want to be a pilot, and that's what he's always wanted to be. So why not try for the best? - How could I argue with that? So we buckled down as a team, and now my son has his dream opportunity. We are so proud of him!

Well, that is just part 1 of the journey. DS will have to do most of the rest himself now, but I say most because we will still support him during the next 4 years and be his biggest fans! I am looking forward to seeing him continue to grow into a young man. I expect to get a little teary-eyed when we say goodbye in June, but I think it will be mostly due to happiness. I always believed it has been my job as a parent to prepare DS for this time in his life, and I have to let him go to live it. Soon he will begin his training to be a leader in the Profession of Arms, and since we are both veterans ourselves and understand fully what that means, we couldn't be more proud of our son. That's what this USAFA appointment is all about for our family.

Good luck to everyone! May the postal forces be with you today!

God bless you, NAV84, and your impatient daughter too. I love her!

Thanks to your post I went ahead and called our MOC. I couldn't believe I was doing this, because she could've said DS wasn't on the list, BUT HE IS!!!

DS HAS AN APPOINTMENT TO USAFA CLASS OF 2016!!! Praise the Lord and pass the ammo! I am so proud of my DS! Wow . . . I am so exhausted from all this stalking too. Now the journey begins!

I don't know which nomination was used for his appointment yet, but the staff member said DSs letter (BFE) would be mailed on 28 March. I think I asked her 3 times, "Are you sure his name is on the list?"

Woohoo!! Now I will shift all my efforts to those of you who haven't heard yet. I pray that you will soon, and that your dreams will come true!

And LFry, call your Senator!

Thank you everyone for your support and virtual hugs. I hope to meet you at parent events. :usa:

Just read this. People were posting so often that I never saw you post it.

I didn't get a nomination from J. Moran or P. Roberts. I got my nom from Congressman Mike Pompeo. I don't think I'll call, simply because I wish to exercise my patience. I don't blame you for calling at all though! Send your congrats to my fellow Kansan for me!

Funny thing is my backup plan is ROTC at KSU. (Nothing against the Jayhawks, KSU is just closer to home.)

I live in Kansas too and was curious to know who contacted your DS about his appointment and which MOC he got a nom from? My plan B is ROTC at KSU (Nothing against the Jayhawks, just closer to home at KSU.)

Thanks!

Hi LFry,
We don't really know who the nom is from, but my DS also has a presidential. Maybe his BFE will say, but I'm not sure. KSU is a great school too!

I sent you a PM.
Good luck to you! I wish you the very best!

Thanks! Quite nervous over here. I'll find out soon enough!

And in case you didn't read my previous post (I edited it), send your congrats to your DS for me!

Thanks for the kind words! My Boss - the Mayor - went to Ol' Miss- I'm sure your son's eaten catfish at Taylor Gro - my boss is a big fan  If your son has a chance, have him stop by City Hall next time he's through! I have not seen the FB page yet, I'll have to check it out.

Best

This has been my prayer too, and why I have to also trust in God that the right decisions are being made. My DS received his appointment call last week (he's waiting on the BFE). I have prayed earnestly for the BFE, because I know how much he wanted to have the opportunity he has dreamed of and worked so hard for, (but, I was sort of, secretly and selfishly, thinking that the TWE wouldn't be so bad because at least he could enjoy a more normal college experience, a little closer to home, 3 months off in the summer and the break from home could be a little more gradual). But, this is his life and his dream and I'm proud to have supported him as he has reached for it and now earned it. I am so extremely proud of this young man, and in all that he has accomplished so far. I know I will continue to be proud as he continues to grow and mature into an AF officer. I'm also thankful for the opportunity God gave me to be his mom, what a blessing.

But, my nerves are still there, just under the surface as I watch him getting ready to embark on this USAFA path, knowing how extremely rigorous it will be. I will be praying for him and all the others receiving their appointments, those waiting to hear and those planning now for Plan B.

God bless you all in your futures.

Letter

Today my DS received a letter of congratulations from our MOC for his appointment to USAFA, a very nice note that was on the MOC's congressional stationary. It also said the letter of appointment (BFE) was on the way. I think my DS was happy to see something in writing so he knew this was the REAL THING - he wasn't just dreaming.

So does the fact that:
1) I have not received an MOC Call, or a BFE
2)Another applicant from my district (that submitted her application before me)has already received an MOC call
3) My portal still says "candidate"
...mean that I will not be getting an appointment?
From what people are saying, I am gathering that all the MOCs have been notified, and call if they want to. My MOC already called some people, but not including me. It sounds like BFEs will only be going out to people that already received calls (if their MOC calls at all, which mine does, apparently).
So is that it for me?

I'm certainly not an expert but...There's probably another week to go, the MoC's slots aren't charged until an appointee accepts the appointment, some don't, and then they look at the next person. Even then you may go into the National pool, I have no idea how that works. But I would say, until you get a TWE, or your portal changes, there is hope. GOOD LUCK!:thumb:
