Does an applicant's ranking in the NWL dictate whether he or she gets to go to sponsored prep school?

Example A: an applicant was just on the bubble for getting in USMMA, but ultimately does not. But because this applicant was so close, does this applicant get an offer to prep school?

Or is it something closer to

Example B: An applicant was closer to the bottom of the NWL, and no appointment was offered; does admissions re-evaluate from the pool in terms of who gets to go to prep school, or do they base it off of ranking on the NWL?

I know this isn't worded the best, sorry guys, Ukrainian is my first language

Your first Example A is not how it works. Your Example B is closer, but not exactly right either. Admissions generally offers sponsored prep school to candidates who are outstanding in some aspects of their candidate profile, but deficient in others so that those deficiencies can be addressed by a year in prep school. Don't make yourself crazy by trying to out-guess Admissions. You will likely have an answer in the next month. Ща́стя!

USMMA uses MMI and NMMI for sponsored prep school appointments each year. These appointments usually go out in May. If you are a sponsored prep, you are automatically admitted to these preparatory schools. If you stay out of trouble and do reasonably well academically in prep school, you will likely have a spot in the next USMMA class. (You will also have to re-apply and get another nomination.)

Do we already have to be accepted to MMI or NMMI to be a sponsored prep.

See my post above. You are automatically accepted if you are a sponsored prep. You do not need to apply until after you get the sponsored prep spot.
