Questions, I checked my USMA portal this morning to find a new official correspondence from admissions which indicated and I quote "This letter is to inform you of your current file status. As of the date noted above, the following item(s) are missing": with my 7th semester transcripts checkboxed. However, when I go to my portal, there is no option to upload 7th semester transcripts until January 1st as illustrated below..
> Required through Dec. 31, 2019: 1-6 Semesters
Beginning Jan. 1, 2020: 7th Semester Required

Not to mention, that I am in the middle of fall finals and my transcripts will not be out for a bit past there provided date of January 1st

Just to clarify, is this serving as a written reminder to get the transcripts in once the option opens on the 1st or something else? Is the timing supposed to be less than 1 month between the upload availability of your 7th semester transcripts on January 1st and file closure on January 31st?

Also is it normal to receive this type of correspondence from USMA, does it mean anything for my packet as a whole, I have already received two nominations, medically qualified and submitted my CFA.

You're overthinking this. Requests for 7th semester transcripts are normal. Some academies (all?) require it of everyone at some point. Get your transcript in as soon as it's available and you're able to send/upload it. (Do they really allow you to upload your transcript?) You'll be fine. If it's going to stretch into Feb then you might notify someone just to be safe but "late" transcripts are not uncommon either.

Our son got the same, and grades won't be 'stored' until end of 1st week of January at which point he will send it in (upload). He just emailed his RC to let them know he is aware and will send when it is available. Think it is pretty standard procedure. Good luck to you!

DD got same notice. Would be nice if appointment came before January because 7th semester grades have slipped a bit, but she knows this is extremely unlikely. :) Her AP/DE schedule is tough this year, and with academy/backup college apps, well, there just aren't enough hours in the day.

If my school doesn't release 1st-semester grades until late Jan early Feb, who should I email? I was nominated and do not want USMA to think I'm blowing them off.

Yes. This is normal. My DD had a LOA, qualified DODMERB, and a couple noms on file and the 7th semester thing popped up around this time.

Her counselor sent in the transcript soon after they were available which was 5 January, I think.

She got her appointment the Wednesday before MLK weekend.

My DS got the same letter and he sent an email letting them know that 7th-semester grades won't be available until mid Jan.

On the flip side of this, I'm a little bummed that my DS didn't get that letter attached to his portal. We knew he'd have to send them as soon as school is back in session for the new year, but if everyone else is being sent this letter, it'd feel a lot better to get one too.

Wow, Thank you all for sharing you advice and stories.
It will take a village to get us all through this that is for sure. I would definitely send the email to RC at WP as a courtesy advising message received and will send as soon as possible.

For everyone on this thread....I worked in West Point admissions a long long time ago...that said, while much has changed during that time a lot hasn't. Try not to read too much into the timing of these 7th semester requests. Everyone who is qualified (to include a nomination) will get this request at one point or another in the coming weeks. What I would like to emphasize is that West Point Admissions pays very close attention to 7th and 8th semester grades. While your grades might slip a notch because you are taking a difficult AP load (this is understandable and acceptable), they will very quickly revoke an offer of admission to a candidate who gets a full case of "senioritis". I recall a few of these cases during my tour in Admissions. It was very sad for those candidates, however, they went from being 'A' students to 'C and D' students from one semester to the next. Keep working hard and everything will be just fine...best of luck to everyone!

Very insightful, question, are u saying that I am 3q'd then. Also, as recommended, I did send a courtesy email to my RC.

3Q means your are academically, athletically, (passed the CFA) and physically qualified (DoDMERB). The nomination is the final piece of the puzzle that allows your file to be sent on to the admissions committee for review. Remember, in most cases your Whole Candidate Score (WCS) is what will ultimately get you an appointment offer. Think of the WCS as the "Order of Merit List" used by Army ROTC. The higher your score vs everyone else the better your chances of getting an appointment. Best of luck!

DS is in the same boat. Grades slipped a bit, and DS is worried. These kiddos are stretched thin first semester with college apps, interviews, and senior culminating project due (district requirement). Not enough hours in the day is right!

Mostly Cs Ds and Fs will do the trick, especially for a candidate who has an excellent academic track record.
