Roller coaster I: Get Us (The Parents) Through Plebe Year - Class of ‘26 🎢

Kid said, "Uniform distribution opened today, so I'll get mine soon. Choker whites too."

They get so much stuff!!
They'll get their white mess dress as a 3/C or early on as a 2/C! They'll also get extra uniform items for commissioning as a 1/C. The best part is if DS goes USMC, he'll get to spend multiple thousands of dollars on a whole new set of uniforms! 😂

It is a bit more economic to stay Navy, but that shouldn't be a factor at all!

I was so touched when my DS came home that rising youngster summer on a short leave and gave me his plebe shoulder boards. This past summer gifted me his youngster boards. I see a pattern.
I have heard of parents doing shadow boxes as a graduation present and the shoulder boards are part of the display. A cool way to repurpose your gifts into something special, unless you'd like to keep them yourself of course!

Oh, no worries about him wanting to go Marines! He has absolutely zero desire.

He had his yearly physical this morning, all good to go! He's looking forward to getting past the flight pre-physical stuff in the next few years so that box will get checked in his dream to fly.

Here is the complete ARWG from NAMI. If DS wants, he can look through it to see if he has any potential issues. Never too early to start asking questions on medical stuff. I personally had to get an asthma waiver and I knew the process included an MCT. I took one with my civilian doc (I was retained on my parents' insurance until graduation) during leave one year as a just to see and it made taking the military one easy (knowing I already passed it). My civ MCT also got put into my record, so I had two tests saying I was negative.

The NAMI Whammy!

It’s a 3-hurdle race: initial DoDMERB to enter military, pre-comm physical, NAMI at flight school.

He also talked with his Calc professor, who is a pilot. Asked to be his aviation mentor, and he said he would be happy to, but it all depends on if he transfers to TX.

The CDR did say, as soon as my kid talks with other pilots, they will easily recommend him for flight. I told him getting his name out there and expressing interest is going to have a good effect on people's opinions. Schmoozing is a good thing. ;)

He tries to get simulator time and has done some dog-fighting in it with others. Usually gets his butt kicked. :p

Talked to the dude last night after asking about tickets for the croquet match. They sent something out to the Brigade last week, and he put his name on the request for tix. He sent me the email to check it out. They will get a free ticket as a mid, and can purchase up to 4 others (at $70 a pop!). Space is limited. They get their invite/opportunity based on interest around 4/3, at which time they will also be able to buy those tickets.

I have to talk to the wife and see if she wants to go. Kid will be caddying, so it could be fun. But keeping a 4-year old from running into the crowd or to the match to see his bro will be tricky!

Any idea when class of ‘26 will find out if they scramble or shotgun?
There’s nothing that says they will — or won’t. It’s not tradition or practice to shotgun or scramble at the end of each year. It happens if and when the Dant feels it’s necessary. Remember, YMMV!

My oldest was never shotgunned/scrambled. My youngest, was. You just never know!
