Roller coaster II: Get Me (The Parent) Through Plebe Year Class of ‘25 🎢

Arrived in Annapolis at 11:15 am this morning. Hit the Midshipman Store to pay that tuition 😂, watched formation, grabbed DS, spent more money at the Gift Shop, renewed DBIBS card, ate lunch, then Amish Market.
At hotel now enjoying my chocolate covered bacon, and delicious warm pretzel…❤️
Oh man. We don't arrive until late tomorrow afternoon well after the Amish closes. :( But I will be visiting Walgreens to have some libations at our B&B for the week.

Same here! Now need to carve out time on Thursday to get my last pretzel dog for probably a long while. I believe Color Parade is that same day, so will need to be strategic about all this. Would DD mind if I prioritized… 😠 …um, never mind.

She absolutely won’t mind if you bring her a couple?

Looks like the weather is going to be on the cool-ish side. Don’t forget a sweatshirt. Or you might have to buy one last item from the Mid Store.

I would probably be buying a sweatshirt even it is warm.

Weather forecast has chance of rain everyday. How could weather impact the Blue Angels practice on Tuesday?

Visibility is the biggest factor on the types of maneuvers you may see, but as long the Blues pilots can see at least three to four miles, they will fly in a light rain. Heavy rain, not so much.

The Blues typically fly three different "shows" based on visibility and cloud ceiling. The "high show" is what they do when they have a CAVU (Ceiling And Visibility Unlimited) day and can use all 15,000 feet of vertical airspace granted to them. The high show has all the stunts that people who have been to shows down in P-cola are used to seeing. As the ceiling drops to (I'm guessing here) less than 8,000 feet but say above 5,000 feet, you get the "low show". That show takes out some maneuvers that most people are used to seeing. I saw a "flat show" once (visibility looked lower than 5,000 feet to me) and thought it was great because they did a lot of low passes with probably double the "sneak passes" that they usually do. Those are my favorite, because they set off car alarms with the vibration and it really surprises people who aren't keeping track of where all six of those jets are. ;)

Just finished packing for Commissioning Week. Quite the task. Need to bring something for the Supe’s Reception, Graduation Ball, Color Parade, Brigade Change of Command…oh, and that thing on Friday morning. Sheesh!

No room in the bag (I only do carry-on when flying) for any Mid Store swag. Does that mean I’ll skip the Mid Store? Don’t be ridiculous. 🙄 I’ll just ship the stuff back!

I have “probably bought” waaay too many over the years lol. I’m about done.

Unless I find something super cute. A must have. That happens any time I go in the mid store or gift shop (which does carry different stuff! Check them out if you haven’t! The ‘toddler sized’ plebe covers are a fan fav)

Also packed. Checking a bag this time. Iv’e got 6 pair of shoes. Not kidding. Lots of different events!!

I’m so excited for you and all the Firstie families.

You nailed it, @justdoit19. It’s the shoes!

Having worked for many years in international business, I mastered the art of packing two weeks of office wear (pre-Covid, mind you, so suits and ties) into one carry-on bag. For multiple climates, too, e.g. Germany, Brazil, Mexico in one run. But dang if packing for Commissioning Week wasn’t a distinct challenge! (Oh, plus DD said, “Bring the pickleball stuff.” 🥴)

Well we arrived. We rescued the DS who seemed to be an inch taller. Dinner at Iron Rooster and then dessert from Red Bean. Walked around by the harbor eyeing really big boats and some tiny ones. Figured out how to to use the turnstiles at Gate 3 with our DBIdS. Only took us two tries. But we had to wait the 3 minutes between swipes.

Oh and made a stop at the not so secret package store to have a bottle of Bourbon for the week. And no I will not drink a bottle in the four days we are here. But that is the advantage to driving.

The Herndon Monument is looking particularly greasy this fine morning. Cooler temps after a steamy weekend. Go get it, 2025!

(On the Yard for my obligatory morning walk. Enough time for breakfast at Chick & Ruth’s before the gun goes off for the climb.)

Looks like a half-ton of lard on Herndon. Are the firsties-to-be getting the ground nice and soggy? Is that tape under the dixie cup? 2025 may have potentially long morning! @MidCakePa, give us the play by play.

For my about-to-be Firstie it’s hard to believe Herndon was only 3 years ago. Seem just like…9 months. Here’s hoping for a long string of “normal “.

Alas, I have a pickleball date with DD. We’ll be on the courts at the far side of Bancroft, but perhaps we’ll hear the roar when the deed is done. Or not. 🥴

It is over. Plebe no more. Now just a 4/C til Friday sometime. They took forever as shown on other threads. Goodthing the weather had broken overnight and was cooler. Tomorrow is a Yard day as DS is on duty, Blue Angels practice and then Glee club concert at night. It has been a good ride. I think this thread will be winding down this week and we begin a new one for Youngster year :)

Close it out with a close-up pic of a dewy-fresh 3/c shoulder board on Comm Day, no face of course, just proof positive there are no longer 4/c at USNA as of 5/27.

Last year, the class crest was unveiled at end of Herndon. I am guessing that didnt happen yesterday, since no one has mentioned it.

When does it normally happen?
