Stand and Fight …. No one gets out of this World alive

Events like these make me grateful that I live in a nation with a strong military and am able to live with freedom and liberty without the fear of another country taking that away from you.

Um…. We are living that fear at this moment. No country on earth is safe right now with Putin putting his nuclear arsenal on high alert. More than liberty and freedom are at stake. Putin is not rattling a sabre; he’s threatening mutually assured destruction and may not be bluffing. It is magical thinking to believe that the U.S. is somehow shielded from this madman’s whims and that our “strong military” is able to protect us from nuclear attack.

One way or another, this man has got to go.

If it’s got to be the apocalypse path, I just hope it’s after March Madness. #gocats #donotfear

Absolutely.

The West will continue to funnel weapons into Ukraine from the western side of the country. It certainly appears that Ukraine has the resolve to continue to defend itself as long as it has the means to do so. This war will be so costly to Russia that I don’t think Putin can survive it. And I do believe that he is crazy enough to use at least tactical nukes on the battlefield if NATO rolled in. I don’t think he would use nukes as long as it is the Ukrainians fighting against him alone. So our best option is to stay out of it, but to do everything we can to keep Ukraine in the fight. And, we need to ratchet up the economic sanctions even further. Fortunately it seems like the entire world is in agreement about that .

The point I was trying to make is that the majority of people here in the United States take our national security and defense for granted. While most of us will sympathize with the Ukrainians, the reality is that most people in the US and will continue on with their lives and watch March Madness while a Ukrainian may be fighting for their life, home, family, and future from a terrible regime. Really it should make us learn from a different perspective, appreciate the Military that we have and the deterrence it offers, and realize that peace really is achieved through strength.

Ukraine's military actually isn't that sophisticated and most of their equipment is outdated and passed on from the Soviet Union. Their will to fight however is admirable and courageous. On the other hand, Taiwan's Military although overshadowed by China, is pretty sophisticated and well trained and for now does have US as a partner. All this does make China think twice about an invasion.

There's some pretty cool footage out there of Ukrainians throwing dozens of molotov cocktails at Russian armored vehicles.

I have time on my hands. And the civilians of Ukraine on my mind.

As the prior owner of a heavy equipment business I’m just wondering in a city of millions how many dozers, loaders, excavators are available? How many semis? How many personal vehicles?

Dig up the main avenues leading to the high value targets. Blow bridges. Deny the Russians access.

Stack disabled semis and heavy equipment to block main ingress routes. Layers deep.

Drop uninhabited structures to block routes.

Keeping them in my thoughts. Peace through strength is something we desperately need to get back to.

Germany finally announced that it will increase its defense spending to 2% of its GDP, which we have been pushing them to do for a long time. This crisis is causing Europe to wake up and will strengthen NATO. That is a very good development because we need to spend a significant amount of our defense resources on the Pacific. The more Europe spends on its own defence the better.

Hopefully the spring thaw will (continue to?) slow down the Russians as many of the roads in Ukraine turn to mud. Let's root for the rasputitsa.
Punxsutawney Phil predicted six more weeks of winter as of 2Feb. So there are 17 days left before spring. I’m sure he spoke to his bros in Ukraine with a translator.

I was pleased to hear that this morning. And their willingness to send arms which is a new precedent. A good one. Now if they can turn away from being energy dependent on Russia.

And you’re a civilian. Sound like an Infantry Company Commander in the 82nd.

Might I add I would need to commandeer all cement plant trucks.

I believe the Ukrainians have already blown up key bridges to Kyiv?

I am in awe of many of the stories of the resistance to the invasion I have heard of.

From 80 year olds trying to enlist, to a Marine blowing himself up to destroy a bridge, to the “ go xxxx yourselves” the last words of that small group of doomed defenders, and many more

I realize a lot of early stories get changed over time and some of these might change as well.

This coverage does have a Remember the Alamo feel to it.
And just like that the story has changed. It appears those brave souls who yelled “go xxxx yourself” to the Russians are not dead but still alive and now in captivity.

id post the article here but they did not use xxxx in describing what those defenders said :)
