It's been a fun game. DW and I chased Bob down yesterday while DS was cleaning out the family sedan in preparation for Prom. We didn't want him to get a TWE right before his big night. We found Bob a few streets down and he laughed at us catching him. He opened his door and started sifting though our street.

Bob: "Oh ****." I knew then it was over. I asked if it was there and he said "yes." And it was. I gave all the mail back to Bob but the TWE and asked him to deliver as usual and not tell DS if he ran him down to get the daily news.

DW and I collected ourselves and went home. DS was gone. I had a moment. She had a moment. Then we bucked up and put our game face on. DS informed us that a lot of TWE were showing up on this thread. He stated that he was not going to check the mail. He didn't. We did the "parent part" of prom and got to watch DS have the time of his life.

DS came upstairs this morning to our bedroom after being up all night at the "non-crazy" all night home for "Promers." We asked how it was and he said, "It was great. I will tell y'all about it after church. I've got to get there or I will be late. DID IT COME YESTERDAY?" .........pause............"Yes, son, It did." "Ok, I'm going to church." and off he went.

His plan B is God's plan A, and we are happy. He will be too. His future is my alma mater and here in our town. 100% paid for and we will get to see him more often than if USNA had become our reality. There are bright sides for all of us who have been or still are on this wonderful island. For us, it was just a vacation....a LOOONG vacation! You have each helped us by making the long days bearable. Thank you.

I will continue to check in and encourage you. Those with "Princ./Prim Noms", fight like hell! Those who are still waiting, take heart! You've lasted so far and will soon know. TWE's, hang onto those letters and remember this time, for it may very well be that the education God wanted for Our DS/DD's was achieved when it showed up.

Carry on and God bless each of you.

So sorry that Bob could not be the bearer of good news. Best of luck on your sons new plan. As for us, we are still waiting and continue to stalk our mailman. Hoping to hear before Thursday when we leave for spring break.

Oh, Tennessee Dad, this made me so very sad. Your DS sounds like a really wonderful grounded child and USNA would have been lucky to have him. I guess God has other plans for our boys, at least for this year. Thank you for your tales of Bob's hi jinx and always bringing humor to this thread. The saddest part of us getting theTWE is that we won't all get to meet. That would have been one great party! How lucky to have your boy close to home! Big hug from sunny California .

I've enjoyed reading your posts regarding your mischievous but clearly good-hearted mail man.

As a parent of a double TWE recepient (USAFA and USNA) I am right there with you. Your post today brought tears to my eyes as well as a smile to my face.

Like you, we are watching DS grow as he processes and makes meaning of all this. Like you, it was healing to see him laughing with friends and just enjoying the moment before heading out to senior prom last night.

These kids are fighters who I believe will ultimately benefit from TWE's and other obstacles they encounter in the future.

Here's to God's Plan A!!!!!

It is so sad to read about all the TWE yesterday . Tenn Dad I also got teary eyed reading your's . All our children will be great leaders one day. My son has bounced back and is happily planning where he will be next year while continuing on his quest for the USNA. He opened his new app on Thursday , let the roller coaster ride begin again lol. Maybe Gods plan is for us all to meet next year at I day and not this.

Happened to my DS

Well guys the same thing happened to my DS. His nomination says the following:

"Dear Mr. DS, I am pleased to inform you that based on the recommendation of my Military Academy Screening Committee, you have been selected as our primary nominee to the United States Naval Academy and also as a nominee to the United States Air Force Academy and the United States Military Academy. The Academy will make an Offer Of Appointment and will notify you directly if you are appointed. We are proud to announce that you have also been chosen."

When we first received the nomination back in December I questioned the MOC rep because I found the last sentence strange and if "principle" and "primary" the same thing. He to told us congratulations and that DS will be receiving a appointment to USNA and that "principle" and "primary" are the same just that each MOC uses different wording.

Several months go by expecting to receive a congratulations call from the MOC for being appointed to USNA but he calls congratulating DS for being appointed to USAFA. DS was happy but USNA is his first choice so asked the MOC if he knew when he would be hearing from him again for USNA. He told him most likely in the next few weeks. Yesterday by our surprise instead of receiving that long awaited call, DS received a TWE "waitlist".

So my question is to BGOs or anyone that would know, what should we do? Has this happened before? I was told that primary nominee and principle nominee are the same thing just different wording. This was told to me by the MOC rep.
My DS also received principal nomination, yet USNA sent him a TWE, while West Point appointed him. Confusing, to say the least. There is more if you are interested. Send me a PM if you want to know MOC response to situation. My purpose is to let you know, you are not alone in an identical scenario; Only difference, WP was DS's first choice.

So sorry for all of the TWE's this weekend. For those of you who are committed to reapplying, I would like to share this with you. My district had only two openings this year. Both of those openings were filled with college freshman, one of which was a a recruited athlete with a LOA. In short, not one high school senior from my district received an appointment to the USNA.

My B&G Officer shared this information with me to show just how much USNA values re-applicants with college under their belt. He approximated that about 40% of the Class of 2018 will have some college or prep school.

I have a great plan B in place at Georgia Tech and I am excited about moving on. Congratulations to all those who received appointments and best of luck to all candidates "still in the game"!

That's consistent with what my son's BGO said. There was a reapplicant in our area that got an appointment -- even beyond the high school ones we knew about.

Perhaps a PRIMARY NOMINEE means you are number 1 on a numbered slate, but the Academy actually chooses who they want which is different from a PRINCIPAL NOMINEE, a candidate actually named by the MOC for appointment as long as all qualifications are met. Just a thought as I found it odd that the word PRIMARY would be used instead of PRINCIPAL.

DS received the TWE yesterday. College reapplicant with competetive stats. Not sure anymore what USNA is looking for.. Attended STEM, NASS, 4 year varsity athlete( captainship), mutiple leadership roles.. Over 120 hours of community service, stellar SAT's an top 10% of class. Currently attending a university in the Scholar program for mechanical engineering.. At a loss at the college reapplicants that did not get in. I am sure there are some and i would be happy if those college reapplicants shared their stats. Not sure if DS will take another swipe at it or not and really do not know what area to strengthen.
Sorry Prepswimmom, I know you are disappointed for us as well. We pretty much knew a few weeks ago after discovering a recrutied athlete and LOA received the appointments from our district. Nonetheless, DS will continue on his path. I look forward to reading the BFE's that are sure to be delivered this week! Good luck to everyone "still in the game" and for those who are not and reapply, there is a very good chance I will be right there with you again next year!!!

It has certainly been a journey... Although I can't classify it as fun, I can say it has been an exciting, intense, and at times very challenging experience for us as a family, and especially for DS.

Thursday I broke down and called MOC's office. Assistant was so accommodating and took 20 minutes to explain exactly where we were for our state... appointments had been made, most accepted and the chances for DS were slim. After not knowing anything for so long I greatly appreciated her candor and started preparing myself and DH

Friday morning we got the call from our BGO. I can't tell you what a blessing that was! DS was playing in out of town baseball tournament that night and Saturday. We couldn't attend because DD had interview with Math and Science boarding school several hours away in opposite direction. This gave DH and myself the much needed time to process the news and wrap our heads around it. Wish I could say (like TN dad) "we had a moment". For us it was more like a few hours! Guess we're not quite as resilient.

Saturday we went through the duties of interviews, etc. Interesting side note - it was almost humorous to see how uptight the parents were...when would decisions be made, how would they be notified, etc... I whispered to DH after the roller coaster ride we've been on with DS, this would be a kiddie ride :)

That evening we were all driving home and we touch base with DS. He's played well. He's happy. He asks us if we had checked the mail. I knew from this thread the TWE was there. He didn't have a key to PO box so I told him we would pick it up on our way into town. I had DH carry the mail inside. I just couldn't.

The disappointment was obvious to say the least. We talked. He needed time to process. He told me to keep the letter.

Plan B - NROTC MO scholarship to Vanderbilt. I fully believe plan b is His chosen path but the day after we found out he was awarded the scholarship Vanderbilt informed us he is wait listed. The journey continues...

I'm confident he will embrace Plan B as Plan A. He is a very thoughtful kid who has never "jumped" at anything but thinks everything through. Plan B2 will be transfer scholarship to University of Oklahoma and study aviation.

We've had the opportunity to watch him grow and mature throughout this process and I'm confident he will be a better person for having experienced it all.

Best wishes to everyone, whichever way God's path leads. These are all amazing kids. I feel more hopeful for our nation that there are so many willing to serve. God bless!

Lessons learned...

So Sorry AnxiousAR, I feel your pain. Although this was our 2nd time at it, the process wasn't any easier. The TWE, although disappointing, was not unexpected when we knew of the other appointments from our district.
Best wishes to your DS in the future.. God Bless all of us!
