Summer Seminar Acceptance!!

"Luck is when preparation meets opportunity"

Thanks for the quote seamonkeydo, I just wanted to add this one too. ^_^

Application is now under consideration. ALO assigned. Good news and impressed with prompt handling of application. Does anyone have an idea of the time frame once an app is under consideration for a decision. Given our app was submitted very late, does it make sense to reach out to the ALO or are they swamped with applications and don't "need" another late applicant contacting them. Thanks in advance for input.

They process the application very quickly. As far as acceptances go, that depends on when they have review boards. I applied 12/7, got in last wed. I got through on the second review board. If I had to take a guess, there should be another wave of acceptances coming within the first two weeks of March, because that is the deadline for the second wave of accepted students to accept/decline the offer. I'm not sure how many spots are left but when I accepted there were 235ish for session A and B, and 175 for session C. But that was a week ago from today, so I have no idea where the numbers are at now. Good Luck!!!

My son also applied in Dec, received offer last week. As mentioned by others, it appears to have been a 2nd round of offers after the signup deadline ended.

I would definitely contact the ALO. My son had a phone interview with his yesterday and he said it went very well. They talked for about a half hour. The ALO told him is was going to send the counselor that he was assigned to a letter. The ALO also told him that he should hear within the next few weeks. His application when in during the middle of January.

Just when my son had stopped looking at the website everyday to check his application status he got an email this morning. Selected session A. This morning there were 201 slots for Session A, 209 for B and 107 for C. Now back to the AIM application!

Congrats to you and your son. We were told that the cut off date for the next round of acceptances was applications received before Feb 10. Since we applied 3 days later, we will just have to wait and see.

My son got his acceptance this morning too !!! He is over the moon. Congrats to all and fingers crossed for those waiting to hear.

I just got my acceptance today!:thumb: I'm very happy. I'm probably going to choose session A

Session A (6/2/2010 - 6/6/2010)
(48 slots still available)
Session B (6/8/2010 - 6/12/2010)
(39 slots still available)
Session C (6/14/2010 - 6/18/2010)
(11 slots still available)

WOW. They must have had a huge amount that got acceptances yesterday. When my son signed up for Session A yesterday there were still 201 spots left.

Whoa. I just accepted mine a couple minutes ago and this is what showed up for me. Odd. I'm going to session A.

Session A (6/2/2010 - 6/6/2010)
(182 slots still available)
Session B (6/8/2010 - 6/12/2010)
(190 slots still available)
Session C (6/14/2010 - 6/18/2010)
(75 slots still available)

Well this is odd...

I think something may be wrong with the counts. I accepted a little over a week ago and it was closer to ancou's numbers....

The rolling admission appears to be a unique process, probably driven in part by need/want for geographical/cultural diversity. Does USMA have rolling admissions as well? The process reminds me of a game of musical chairs in a gym with everyone filling up the gym to play while at the same time all the chairs are being removed...The UC system and Stanford have math and engineering summer programs that have a 45 day application window and just wonder if the USAFA should consider doing the same, given the large number of applications. Again congrats to those that are going, it should be a great way to start the summer.

Hey folks!

Just an update...we ALO's were told to plan on having any recommendations, etc., that we might want to make, in to USAFA "prior to 1 MAR 10."

My guess is that starting Monday USAFA will make a concerted effort to fill all the remaining slots.

I don't KNOW this to be the case, but its an educated guess from an old ALO.

Any suggestions of what our son should be doing to increase his chances of getting into the Summer Seminar at the AF? He is still under consideration.
