The cocktail thread (I blame the Rona) - post yours !

You former Marines are hard core. I’m surprised you didn’t offer any bread with that water;). Perhaps a Shirley Temple or maybe a virgin daquiri might help morale for the under 21. Paper work is exhausting. Let's give them hope.
Shirley Temple:
Fill a Hurricane or Collins glass with ice and add the grenadine. Fill with ginger ale, 7UP or Sprite. Stir, and garnish with a maraschino cherry and lemon wedge.
WT, @Jarhead713 is not (yet) a Marine of any flavor, but someone who perhaps chose a screen name a bit prematurely and unintentionally early on. They’ve written many mature posts and stepped in to confront peers, hence the “Junior Mod” nickname.

I’m fond of a Shirley Temple, always brings back memories of trying to be grown-up while my parents were drinking Manhattans.

Apologies, sir. I'm not a former marine.

I did want to be a marine at one point.

But yes, the Shirley temple (to clarify, sprite and cherry) is quite popular among the MSLs here at Ole Miss ;)

Ahhh. I get it now, thanks to the kind assist by @Capt MJ. No apologies needed on this happy and educational thread. Since I am more of a consumer, than a producer of cocktails, I got this one off the internet. I liked drinking Hurricanes in New Orleans. Here’s hoping that Hurricane Laura avoids Mississippi.

The Hurricane (for those of drinking age)

2 ounces light rum
2 ounces dark rum
1 ounce fresh lime juice
1 ounce fresh orange juice
1/2 ounce passion fruit purée
1/2 ounce simple syrup
1 barspoon grenadine
Garnish: orange wheel
Garnish: preserved cherry

Cheers!

And since we're clarifying, "Former Marines" are dead as well. ;)

Ooh Rah.

One of those little military things. Marines are always Marines. Never “former.” They can be retired Marines. They can be Marine veterans. They can be separated Marines.

I went down the rabbit hole of attempting to make my first cocktail 'shrub', which I will say was inspired by @Capt MJ. It is 'resting' in the frig for 17 days (recommended per recipe). Hopefully the vinegar components relax a bit, otherwise I may have to do a second attempt. The stone fruit flavor is amazing. I am envisioning good chilled vodka, sparkling water and the shrub with fresh mint. Let the countdown begin.

Or in some cases, non Marines

Reminds of a ditty in a march cadence. "The prettiest girl. I ever saw. Was sipping gin, right through a straw." Left, right, right, left" Don't remember any of the other verses....
And now and then, that straw would slip, and I'd sip gin, right through her 💋 lips.

Excellent visuals. I think the acidity is the point, and the trick is to how to use it in combination.

I don’t drink, but my favorite “mocktail” is half cranberry juice and half Sprite (and it must be Sprite, nothing else will do). Simply the most refreshing thing ever. I am a man of simple tastes.

Agreed. Have you ever tried the 100% single fruit juice line from Knudsen? No apple or pear juice added in, no added sugars. The 100% cranberry is great with Sprite or 7-Up. A real hit of tartness. Trader Joe’s has some 100% single fruit juices too.

Thanks for the verse refresh! It conjures memories of an M-14 at right shoulder arms. Tonight, I will trade the memories of the drill and parade piece for a nice GT.

I’m pescatarian, but I give a thumbs up to that pic.

Thought I would resurrect this thread with a picture of Saturday's "lunch". I had to take two pictures to try and show all the goodies.

Was that drink priced like a lunch?
