I know that TWE's have gone out to those who did not complete the application but does anyone know if any TWE's have gone out for candidates who completed the application?

Don't know about USNA, but USMA typically finalizes appointments and rejections early April to allow candidates to submit new test scores, CFE scores, and school grades and activities that are up to date. I have not seen any posts here about TWE's being received by anyone other than those applying for early admission. Give it till April before getting worried, and keep updating your info.

Weird question, @benlew1s. Whether 1 or 1,000 or 10,000 have already received TWE, does it matter? Until you get yours — or not — try not to sweat every minute about this. Please go enjoy your senior year. It only happens once.

It's not a dumb question, but the answer isn't that valuable.

The first wave of TWEs are those that didn't finish the application, followed by those who did not get a nomination and are not being considered for NAPS

The majority of Appointments go out from late Jan to around mid-March then it slows down. The first big wave of TWE's happens around end of March to first week of April but there are some that happen earlier.

Around April 15 is when most of the remaining CPRs turn into TWE or Waitlist. There are usually a few CPRs still hanging around after that due to special circumstances like a pending waiver of another candidate on the same slate etc.

I didn't receive a nomination to the USNA, and I haven't received a TWE yet either... Does that mean I'm still in the running for NAPS?

You are still in the run unless given a TWE. Good luck!

This has probably already been answered, but I couldn't find it. Does the TWE come electronically as an email to check your portal? Or is a TWE actually delivered in the mail? Really wanting to know if everything is done electronically with regards to the TWE or could a TWE actually be sent out in the mail while still in CPR status online?

Thanks. Good luck to all!

Unless it’s changed it comes by mail!!

My DS received his electronically last year.

Yep, it comes in an email that looks like this. I didn't receive any mail regarding it last year.

Thank you!

Full disclosure - I got two consecutive paper TWEs in the spring of '88 and '89. Then in the spring of '90 I got the good news and the BFE to USNA. So I feel qualified to say that I know how disappointing it feels to not just get one, but two TWEs. But was it worth it trying for a third time? ABSOLUTELY!! At the end of the day, Admissions has really hard choices to make. There will be many, many very competent and qualified candidates who don't get an appointment this year. It's VERY hard as a young person to accept. It can make candidates and parents very bitter. Trust me, I know. That's why it's critical to continually work on Plans B, C and D. And as many have said already, it's not over until you get official word from USNA Admissions like the letter Boolean posted above. Our DS1 got a direct appt. to USNA. Awaiting word like everyone else on DS2.

Short story: I worked with a coworker about three months ago who had gotten the early April TWE years ago - then one week prior to I-Day he got a call from Admissions to see if he was still interested in going to USNA. He had already accepted an appointment to USMA and was packed and ready to head to West Point, NY. But he "Yes." So he arrived in Annapolis on I-Day with orders from Admissions, but didn't have any pre-printed name tags, or his name on boxes or anything. But, he raised his hand on I-Day and graduated from USNA four years later. Yes, that's an extreme case, but if going to USNA is your true goal - it's possible. Never, never give up!

Lastly, if the goal is to become a great military officer, then each young person needs to seriously consider ROTC or OCS. I have many lifelong friends from all commissioning sources. All are commissioned as Ensigns or 2ndLTs in the officer corps of the military. Great officers come from all schools all over our great country. It doesn't have to be from a SA. As has been said: It is your attitude, more than your aptitude, that will determine your altitude.

Good luck to all!

@USNA_Dad - This is a great response. My DS earned an Appointment this year after a TWE last Spring. He enrolled at Plan B, worked incredibly hard and re-took his ACTs. Better standardized test scores and a strong College GPA made all the difference.

As long as you improve your application, SAs look favorably on re-applicants. Never give up on your dreams

TWEs are now electronic -- USNA started doing it that way a couple of years ago. It provides earlier notification and saves paper (and associated costs).

Today, TWEs are final. In the past ("years ago" as the above poster said), folks might have been called on a rare occasion after receiving a TWE and offered an appointment. Now that there is a Wait List, to my knowledge, that no longer happens. Only those on the WL still have a shot after April 15 (other than those with LOAs pending medical clearance).

Usna1985 , thank you for the clarification on TWEs being final. I certainly don’t want to give bad information or false hope to current or future candidates if they receive a TWE. Thanks again.

I definitely believe that, in the past (pre-WL days), there were more than a few situations such as the one you relayed. It doesn't happen today and I didn't want anyone to harbor such false hope.

Roughly a decade ago, I had a candidate who received the TWE and had a coach tell her that she was actually "waitlisted." I spoke to Admissions who said that a turndown (TWE) is a final decision. The good news is that the candidate reapplied, was admitted, and has long since graduated. :)
