Two appointments same neighborhood.

Christcorp is correct: one was initially a recruited fencer after he lost to a USAFA fencer at the Nationals, 15-11 (They were tied at 11-11 for a LONG time, and the USAFA coach came over to his fencer, whispered an instruction, and my little high schooler was whipped, then, but the coach liked his chutzpah). Twins had almost identical scores in everything, including fencing. One was later to apply and was also blue-chipped, but at a late date. He did not go on the recruiting trip, and didn't find out till later, after his brother received an LOA in October, 2011.

Both homeschooled, they had 45+ credits from local 4 year university, 4.0 there too (subjects harder to homeschool: Physics & Chemistry w Lab for example).

There had been only one kid from our district (the smallest by population in PA) go to any US Service Academy, a man who graduated in 1979 and was later killed in flight. When my boys were set to leave for USAFA, this man's mother baked a cake for them, and prayed for them every single day. She still asks about them (she's 92 now).

One of our veteran posters; Fencersmother; had both her sons; TWINS; receive an appointment the same year. (Class of 2012). I guess that's as close to the "Same Neighborhood" as you can get.

Yeah, but it's no secret they are doing some twin studies, soooooo

NOT THAT THEY DIDN'T DESERVE IT! Just not quite as surprising that they would both make it in to the same SA at the same time

Last year, my DD was one of four from her high school to get an appointment to the class of 2021. Two were recruited athletes, two were not. It has been amazing for her to go through this experience with 3 people she knows, one of which happened to be one of her best friends!

When DS entered USAFA in 2009 as a C4C, there was a cadet in each class year attending USAFA- so 4 cadets from our neighborhood attending at the same time ( 3 of them even lived on the same street!). There were also 2 accepted that year from his high school.

OK, I am not going to take offense, but I will put my kids' stats up against ANYONE'S! Plus, of all the twins in the class of 2012 (some who went to USAFA as twins, some where only one twin went), I think all graduated. And, some are still friendly with my twins, stationed nearby, etc.

Curious. Were the boys, your twins, in any of the same classes together at the academy.

Mike

I think they had boxing together, but I don't think they had any actual courses together. I will ask though since my brain is a bit on the fogged side.

I DID revise- I have every confidence that your kids got their spots well-deservedly, I truly do. Sorry if it came off that way. (When we went on our USAFA tour our guide talked about twin studies.) I am positive both got in on their merits.

I think my class at USNA had 3 sets of twins. I had one of the identical twin brothers in my company. They used to get yelled at for not greeting properly until everyone realized it was the wrong twin. I had their sister as my Plebe the following year. My old neighborhood in Northern VA had a family with 3 West Point Cadets and another family with a USNA Mid and NROTC Mid At NOVA (Dad was a grad and mom was a Navy nurse). This isn’t uncommon to see as the military officer path is very often a family affair. I think there have actually been some studies and stats on this recently.

What an inspirational story, thank you for posting! I’m homeschooling DS and we are planning ahead since he is only in middle school. I’m trying to navigate and learn the ropes so that we’d be in good standing when he reaches high school.

My wife had two brothers attend USAFA as part of the same class even though they were not twins and neither was a preppie nor prior.

My dad, his brother and their first cousin were all at USNA at the same time eons ago.

This thread kinda reminds me of three FB players that all went to USAFA in 2019 after graduating from my high school. (One other person graduated the previous year but went to Prep so they are all c/o 2024)

I learned a week before BCT that another doolie just down the street from me was also headed to USAFA.
One of us attended private school and the other public.
As of today I have only bumped into him once. 🙂

My son is at USAFA now with another kid in our neighborhood. Also 2 others from his high school class.
