USAFA Waiting Page C/O 2028

Received a text from the ALO last night saying that the bulk of the decisions will come out in early and mid-April

Hurry and wait (more).....
Oh my word, early to mid April is SO late. My daughter has 3 noms and an LOI but has not received an appointment yet. Mid April doesn't give kids much opportunity to secure a backup plan. We are already so late that if she doesn't get in this year, she may end up working and applying again next year!

I hope it all works out for your DD! From our experience, even with a late notification our kids can thrive at Plan B. USNA TWE came for DS #1 on APR 28 (a year where the decision date was set at May 1). Yes, we were juggling plates & it was stressful but he received the TWE, said - I guess it wasn’t meant to be - and immediately moved on. Loves his school and didn’t want to re-apply. Good luck 🍀!!

We are working plan B while we wait. DS is doing final visits to his top two non-USAFA colleges to decide what plan B is in April. His idea is that he will pull the trigger on one of them around mid-April if he hasn’t heard from USAFA by then. There are always appointments that come really late. One of my cadet’s friends got his appointment in May. Ds will be happy to call his plan B school and tell them he’s not coming if he gets into USAFA after that. He will do ROTC and reapply next year and I won’t cry over the deposit should they choose to keep it. Having a plan is making it a lot easier for him to wait.

We are using plan B as a distraction. He too will do ROTC at his plan B college. Not sure he would reapply next year or not. Paid deposits this week, and he reached out to the corps about various squadrons etc. No bad options… so excited for him however it works out!
Is that at TAMU? Ds is spending the night with the Corps in a couple weeks to scout squadrons. TAMU is in the lead at the moment in the plan B race.

Just want to give a word of encouragement to those who are waiting and hoping for news. Both of my DS had already made arrangements for their Plan B and had even pretty much selected their rooms. My oldest DS got his call on St Patrick's Day from the MOC with an appointment to the USAFA Prep School. Wait over, all good. My youngest DS had applied to USNA and USAFA and his ride was not so easy. USNA placed him on the waiting list, then USAFA said that he was a good candidate but there was no spot for him so thanks but no thanks. One week later USAFA wrote back and said, actually we might be able to get you in so will you accept a spot on the waiting list? Then USNA said sorry, no place available, thanks but no thanks. Two weeks later USAFA said you're in as a direct appointee. Now both boys are together at USAFA in the same class. My point is that not even two brothers had the same journey into USAFA and even though one had been told no, there he is. Don't give up or lose hope as there is still a long way to go and one of my oldest DS' friends at USAFA Prep School was given one week notice before I-Day. This is the most stressful time for the potential appointees (the lead up to I-Day and the 6 weeks after it are for the parents IMHO) and the best thing to do is be proud of your accomplishments thus far, enjoy the time you still have together and don't let checking the portal become your hourly fix. What will be, will be and bright futures await anyone who has made it even this far. Good luck to all.

Yes, it is. If he goes there this will be our third and final kiddo at TAMU.

My ds loves the idea of TAMU and we have a lot of friends that attend so he wouldn't be alone. My only concern is that it is too big, but that's why we're revisiting the options, so that ds can figure everything out for himself. Sounds like your ds would be really happy there!

It is very large. I think about 77,000 kids this year. But I do think being part of the corps can help make that not feel so huge! My other two Aggies were not corps. And they bleed maroon now. Good luck to your DS!

The Corps of Cadets at TAMU does help to shrink the size of the University. My oldest DS is a senior in the Corps this year. It does make a difference.

I have a question, if we submitted our application early, back in October right before the first deadline in November, and still haven’t heard back, is that indicative we won’t receive an offer? I ask because I wonder if the people who have to wait longer and then actually hear back with an offer is because their application is submitted later like towards the January 31st deadline and it just gets reviewed later. Thank you.

This how appointments come out. MOCs are notified the week prior so that they can contact appointees if they choose. Whether you call is up to the MOC. Then, all of those appointments hit the portal on the predetermined day.
Yes, we didn't receive a call from our MOC. Just a portal update.

Not at all! My DS had everything completed mid August and just got an appointment offer on Mar 20. The wait, omg!!

Hi all,

What you see above is a graph that shows the accumulation of appointments self-reported to this website over the last several admissions cycles.

Hopefully this might help those on this forum understand where USAFA stands in the admissions cycle. Please keep in mind, those that report their appointment to this forum are most likely not a representative sample of the population of qualified candidates. This means that we should be skeptical when estimating things like the remaining number of appointments to be released at a given time.

Some comments that I think should go along with this post:

"We don’t know how many additional appointments the SA has offered above the class target range size to achieve the desired yield. We don’t know the actual appointments offered, or offered and accepted, as of today or any other date, or the rate at which they are being offered. The SA may publish that in the class profile after the cycle completes. We can only see a tiny slice of the data set of who has happened upon SAF and decided to post their appointment." - @Capt MJ

"Applicants waiting to hear should apply critical thinking and blank their minds on “what might remain,” tend your alternate plans, go PT and soak up family and friend time. If this works out the way you want, you have about 4 months left at home before the pattern of your life abruptly shifts, and for the next 9 years, you only visit a few times a year." - @Capt MJ

"You are not toast until you are told you are toast. Even then, there is a tiny sliver of hope that while you are toast for an SA this cycle, you might get whipsawed with the news you’re a fresh slice headed to the service prep school or funded prep." - @Capt MJ

Ahhhh, Capt MJ is here, even when she isn't here 🌸

Did you make this graph? Much appreciated! It is interesting to see that there is much more room and time for future appointments if you rule out class of 2027 which appears to be an outlier. It is also interesting to see how less of a “jump” in appointments there was on march 20th compared to 2026 and march 17 for 2025. Good luck to all!
