USNA 2025 Waiting and....Waiting

DS/No LOA/assume 3Q/Sen nom (NC). Also waiting on NROTC scholarship news - accepted at #2 civilian school (LSU Engineering) and hoping to get NROTC scholarship there.

Thank you for posting this thread - it's comforting to know we aren't alone! Good luck everyone :)

You are welcome for the thread. We are also from NC. Hopefully, our DSs will both be appointed to USNA. Keep us posted and let us know if you hear any word.

Son, has an LOA (which he received at the end of November), only thing left on it was a nomination. But he did NOT receive one. He only got one for the USAFA. He did "apply" for a VP one, although those are like unicorns.

So now waiting to see if a mystery nomination is given to him. Not a lot of high hopes for that.
Hate to hear that for you. It is unbelievable that you can get an LOA but not a Nom. From what I have learned on this forum though, that is fairly common. Have you heard anything from USAFA yet? Best of luck to your DS!

DS was between Norwich and ERAU as well. He recently decided on ERAU as Plan B after being able to visit.
Prescott or Daytona? Issue with ERAU is how expensive it is for an OOS student. DS had some merit given but holding out on ROTC scholarship news at the moment before officially accepting as plan B.

I just wanted to inform those waiting in the word on their vice presidential nomination that it has already been granted this year. With this information I thought I should share for those that have been waiting too.

I received a call from the USNA office today informing me that my LOA contingent only of a nomination may not be fulfilled this year.
Sorry to hear this. I hope a Nom works out for you, as you are obviously a very deserving candidate. Keep us up to date on what happens. We are pulling for you...best of luck!

Thank you for sharing this info. There is another poster on another thread that noted that he/she also received a call yesterday (Sunday) from USNA saying that the applicant would not be receiving a VP nom. I'm not sure I've ever seen this referenced in this forum before (getting a call saying one would not be getting the VP nom, and in your case, letting you know that you would not likely be getting a nom from another source despite LOA). I guess kudos to USNA for letting you know where you stand. Still, surprised they made that call.

Have any of our seasoned posters or members of the SAF Brain Trust seen this before?

Again, thanks for posting this info. and by the way, congrats on Ga Tech!

He is still awaiting any decision from the USAFA. He did not make it in the "big wave" that came out last Wednesday where a large chunk of people find out. Normally, the bad news letters are sent out by April 16th or so. BUT .... they supposedly do batches of offers each Wednesday from now until then.

Not high hopes for there either, right now. It's okay as he's working on his Plan B for a local school that has offered him a merit based scholarship, and applying for some others.

Daytona Beach. And that was exactly our situation. DS will be aeronautical science. It is expensive and was not a serious consideration until he received the ROTC scholarship. Now that his tuition is covered, we will find a way to figure out the flight costs. Without the scholarship, it would have been Norwich.

That's the first time I have heard of anyone getting a telephone call from USNA to notify them that they would probably not be getting a nomination (whether in general or from the VPOTUS).

As for the Vice President, she can have up to five (5) nominees at any one time attending each of the academies which require nominations (USMA, USNA, and USAFA). That's fifteen (15) nominations, total. Now, they say that there are "typically only one or two vacancies per year", but they don't say whether or not there is a "reset" when a new VPOTUS takes office. In other words, if VP Pence had filled all those spots (and none of them commissioned last year), does that mean that VP Harris doesn't get to nominate anyone this year? Of that salient point, I am not sure.

'00 Riddle Grad (BS - Aviation Maintenance Management @ Daytona Campus) here. I do not recall NROTC, but I had 2 years in AROTC before I decided not to sign. Late 90's were a different time (You were really being radical if you chose Military life back then.)

I loved ERAU. Still in daily conversations with my brothers of Sigma Chi. The school has evolved a lot since I went there, but I still think it ranks as one of the top ROTC schools in the nation.

Thank you. I actually received a call from them because I was scheduled and signed up to come up for the candidate visit that was sent out to LOA's and appointed candidates. They did not want me to come all the way up when they may not be able to find me a nomination to fulfill my LOA. I asked about my status on the VP nomination and discretionary nominations and they told me that some have already been used and the VP nomination has already been charged this year.

Self/No LOA/assume 3Q/MOC nom (CA)

(Received 3Q letter from USMA)

This has been a long waiting game. A friend I knew last year who applied, received his news of appointment from USNA 2 weeks prior to where we are now with no LOA. Does admissions wait to send rejection until after the April 15th deadline? If they reviewed your file and rejected it, why would they sit on it and wait to tell you?

Self/No Loa/(MOC NOM)/ believe I’m 3Qed. Kinda let my plan b, c & d fly by as I was planning on going into nuclear engineering and that paired with nrotc is hard to find schools that I can really get excited about. Plan on working, taking a year of community college and really working on SAT/ACT as I was unable to take them this year. I’m from Washington 7th district if you’re wondering and man I am not a fan of this waiting

Great to hear! Thanks for sharing. We were both very impressed by the campus and the College of Aviation. Because of Covid, we weren't able to meet with any ROTC staff, however our tour guide was a senior in NROTC that just found out he is commissioning into aviation so he was wonderful and had a lot of good information for my son. I'm just glad he has a Plan B to be excited about during this insane waiting period. As we were landing at DAB and he saw all the ERAU craft and the speedway, his face just lit up.

This was the same case with my DS. He was to travel to USNA for candidate visit day in April.

You are correct that the VP can have 5 CHARGED nominees at any one time which is the same as the MOCs/Senators. EACH time one of them is open, there can be TEN nominees just as is the case for MOCs/Senators. When the incumbent officeholder changes, this does NOT free up any nomination space just as is the case for MOCs/Senators. Those MOC/Senator/VP noms are charged to the OFFICE, not the specific Officeholder.
