USNA 2026 Waiting and.… Waiting

There is a shot as long as you do not have a TWE. Look at the last few years of appointment lists, you will see there are some appts this late in the game. But, there are also, many TWEs at this point too.
Seems fruitless to guess I suppose, BUT more than 40% of the appointments reported on SAF last year came after April 1. Keep the dream alive, people! 💪

I’ve noticed my portal has not updated since yesterday at 2:00 pm. Anyone else? It was updating every hour.

I am EST.

To find the update time, go to the progress view page (with the green checkmarks), and scroll down. You'll eventually see the update day and time.

Now that Preliminary Applications are out for 2027, does it seem preemptive to fill out the application prior to receiving my 2026 application decision?

That's hilarious! I assume, due to the lack of sensitivity, that you aren't awaiting any appointment news! Excellent SA!
I’m glad the college application days are over. Many moons, and not too many moons ago, I and my kids waited. During my time there was no internet, social media, or instantaneous information. I never wondered about how competitive I was in our district. I put in a package, then waited. Mom and Dad didn’t ask a whole lot back then and figured “what will be, will be.” They were excited when I received my appointment. My experience was relatively angst free.

Fast forward. One waiting son (a good story for later) received his appointment and was of course, grateful. His sister and brother had applied in previous years but were not tendered an appointment. I told my son, after he received his appointment, that his sister and brothers were just as talented as he. He kind of knew that. What separated him and his siblings in receiving an appointment? Timing and circumstance, I believe. Just about everything in life is timing. Who knows the ways of the Nominations and Appointments folks at this stage? The older sister, currently serving, was not granted an eye waiver. She went West Coast NROTC. A BGO friend of mine encouraged her to reapply from her unit. Happy and thriving where she was, she had found her “peeps” and never looked back in her four years with the unit. We hope to visit her Japan. The older brothers graduated from state schools, embraced the funny thing called “life” and are doing well in the private sector. In a sense, I am waiting for appointment news. Some candidates will be joyous. Some will be disappointed as were my DD and DSs. I hope that any disappointment is short-lived and that those not receiving an appointment will implement alternate plans with vigor. I cannot say enough about how I admire the young people that made a commitment, applied to the Naval Academy, and now are seeing the process to its very end. The best of luck to all of you in your chosen endeavor.

Perhaps this was the cause:

Bill Signed: H.R. 026 | The White House

https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing room/legislation/2022/03/30/bill-signed-h-r-026/

On Wednesday, March 30, 2022, the President signed into law:

H.R. 026, the “DoD Service Academies End Strength Authorization Act,” which increases total appointments available to entering classes at the United States Naval Academy, United States Military Academy and United States Air Force Academy.

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki acknowledged the bill’s primary sponsor, Rep. Philo T. McGiffin, (D-East Jabip) and added, “The President fully appreciates the patience of all candidates and hopes that appointments authorized in H.R. 026 are filled promptly and judiciously.”

April Fools! I only wish the bill were true as there are deserving candidates still in the hunt. Continued best wishes to those waiting.

Appreciate your sense of humor. Thanks!

I was (blissfully?) ignorant before logging on about a week ago. I knew NOTHING about the SA application process when DD started and I still don't know what I don't know. Her BGO advised me to "stay off the Facebook" as it related to appointment news. And I heeded that advice until I got a peek of the chatter here. Reassuring to know so many are in the same boat, but still not productive lol. Honestly I've been scouring the forums because DD asked me to stop asking her if she had checked her portal. We agreed that I wouldn't ask and that I needed to trust that she is checking it daily and will let me know if there are any changes.
My DD told me... She would rather be rejected than hear me ask about her portal again. The wait is awful.

Question - if the waiver is not requested by USNA before April 15 ( DODMERB deadline ) does it mean the candidate is out ?

Sorry mom or dad. It’s a tough spot to be in. Go for a good walk. Give your soon to be adult who is “freaking out on the inside” about their future a little room.
I’m not trying to preach. I was there. I’m still there in some respects. I just learned that my stress doesn’t help the stress of my DS.
Privately I still stress on the inside.

No, you are not out, until you are told explicitly (vs inferred) that you are not offered an appointment.

It also doesn’t infer that you WILL still receive an appointment.

What it all means to you, as a candidate, is to work your alternate plans. Have another option ready to go!!

Thank you.

My portal still hasn't updated.

It says last updated 03/31/2022, 12:00 pm on the "my progress" page, whereas it used to update every hour on the hour. I'm gonna assume it has something to do with the 2027 Preliminary application opening.

My nerves can't take much more of this waiting.
