USNA Class of 2027 Waiting and Speculating

I see that there are multiple clubs for Texas. Which club would parents in West Texas fit in to?
Looking at the parents club map on USNA.COM, I see two Parents Clubs in Texas, they are in Dallas and San Antonio and are titled North Texas Parents Club and South Texas Parents Club respectively.

Quick Question. I have had a LOA since November and now it says “Complete - Pending” when should I expect an appointment to appear? Everything else is cleared!

You know the answer to this - anytime between now and 15 April, which is the target date to give people a status, or the end of May. Given your LOA, it is likely to be earlier, but there is no way to tell when.

There are thousands of applicants. There are not thousands of people in Admissions. The class gets built a piece at a time, intentionally and with many quality control checks, from late summer into June.

The MOCs are notified by Admissions and given a window of time to call or notify the candidate, IF they choose to do so. Answer your phone and have a professional voicemail prompt set up. Check your portal 1-2 times a day, then go enjoy your life. You are in an excellent position. Just wait. Go PT!

I know but not many people know what it is
There are 1000+ IB accredited high schools in the US and every district I know of around here has at least one. My DS also went to an IB middle school. I think for people looking at fairly competitive higher education they're probably familiar with the curriculum.

If your LOA changed from LOA to CPR with all things met, I would expect your appointment any day. The trend has been changing the status back to CPR as they are pushing paperwork through and letting the MoCs make the call to you.

This is exactly what we’ve decided to do. My DS accepted an AROTC Scholarship to The Citadel this week and we’ve made a deposit and will proceed with all the paperwork. He’s cleared dodmerb for both USNA and AROTC. We still have VMI, Norwich and UNG acceptances as emergency backups. Feeling much more relaxed this week. My DS is spending time looking at clubs and intramural sports at The Citadel and is excited. Stress level has decreased significantly.
What ha[[ens if you accept NROTC and then you are called for USNA? Can you give up?

That is what my son did. He had just received his NROTC scholarship and was in the process of doing everything to get ready for his summer programs (he was already a college programmer, so was going to do both CORTRAMID and NSI) when he got his USNA offer. He informed his LT advisor and the PNS and closed out everything with the NROTC unit and scholarship and reported for I-Day to the Academy.

I wouldn’t call it ‘give up’, I don’t think those words are allowed here on the forums 😬 but I get what you are saying.

Absolutely you may head to Annapolis. Letting your ROTC point of contact know. Both of my boys did this. As do many others. On their way to USNA.

Thanks for the advice, I am not aware of words we can’t use. I mean to accept USNA after accepting NROTC, if this is ok.

justdoit19 was being silly. As most kids that get a scholarship or appointment are persistent and driven and don't "give up." Tongue in cheek. ;)

*trying* to be funny. Obviously didn’t hit that mark.

But to be clear, yes you can ‘give up’ the scholarship. It’s not actually awarded to you until successful completion of NSI, checking in, taking the Oath and signing the papers. You could just ‘not show up’ and fulfill those piece. But most here on the forums wouldn’t do that, either. They would call their POC and thank them for the amazing opportunity, but that you feel called to attend USNA.

It’s not an uncommon happenstance. Both programs are competing for the same candidates, for the most part.

I have many questions about this process. Have received the nominations (no LOA), and all other requirements appear to be complete in the portal, DoDMERB was done in Oct. but in the last few weeks they have requested more information (specifically prescription history)...should this be considered a sign that the application is actually maybe being reviewed at some level?

This is likely only an indication of where you are in the DODMERB process and not where things stand in terms of USNA reviewing your application.

DODMERB operates independently by design. (Academies can request waivers for DQs, but cannot otherwise influence the process.) A request for AMI is typical on the path to completion, but is not a reflection of the academy application review. Stay on top of their requests and complete as quickly as possible.

Absolutly you can keep NROTC and give up if you get USNA Appointment. Last YR my DS, a current USNA Plebe, was able to keep his after discussing with NROTC leadership and the University as a plan B and 'gave it up' after IDAY. We sent email to both NROTC & University after IDAY.
NOTE (We did pay and loose University deposit)

Actually I did not understand… I speak 4 languages but English is not my native language as you can see. The word “give up” was funny and inappropriate for NAVY people who never give up, decline is a better word… hahaha
thanks for the advice of calling and thanking for the opportunity, I hope that my DS will need to do that.
