USNA Class of 2027 Waiting and Speculating

I’m currently reading Brothers Forever. The story of Brendan Looney and Travis Manion. They were at USNA on 9/11. Their commitment and those of many others like them, was for me, more meaningful knowing the world they were walking into.

Considering the times we are in, I appreciate not just my son’s commitment when he signed his 2/7, but all of those who step up and say, as Travis did, “If not me, who?”.

This book cannot be done on Audible while driving. The tears impede vision. Beautiful, and a story worth telling.
My husband and I were classmates of Travis and Brendan. Great guys!

anyone know if there’s any NY appointments that have rolled out already? and is NY known to be very competitive ?
Some districts are more competitive and others are less competitive in many states, especially the largest ones population wise.
For a while, there were districts in NYC that submitted ZERO or just one or two noms per year. I haven't seen stats for quite a while on it but there have always been some districts that always have ten nominees per slot per cycle and others that don't see that many applicants.

Is that the whole of NJ? Or just your area? NJ applicant here so I’m really desperate to hopefully hear some good news soon. Another person from my school got an offer of appointment yesterday
There are two BGO areas in NJ.
The reality is that the ADMISSIONS board reviews candidates on a rolling basis and starts long before the application deadline on 31 Jan.
The Noms and Appointments Group does the SLATING, not the Admissions Board and that is what can take place on a district by district basis.

My district in CT only submitted five Noms for USNA, one of the five being my DS. Last year there were only 4 for USNA. Last year there was only 1 Nom for the USMMA and this year there were 0.

My kid was going against 200+ for 10 slots in our District (per the interview panels each year). Doesn't help that that District also includes Annapolis in the mix of people. :p

Before DS hit “accept” I asked him again if he understood his commitment, and if he still feels this is the path he desires considering our World climate. His answer was, “now, even more than ever” - I still haven’t figured out how I feel about it; I’m proud of the man he is becoming and worried of what is ahead. God bless our nation, our soldiers and our families 🇺🇸🙏🏼 - I would love to read Brothers Forever, but perhaps I should wait a little longer 🤣 - this mama’s heart can only take so much! 🤣

For his sake, he has the first two years to strengthen his conviction, with the help of shipmates, professors, SELs and officers. You’ll evolve with him, the more you learn through him and meet the great people around him.

Or his conviction will dissipate, in which case he can resign before 2-for-7. And there’s no shame in that, as not everything looks as shiny from the inside. In which case, using the same drive that got him to USNA, he’ll bloom where he’s ultimately planted,

Trust that you’ve raised him right. And then enjoy the journey, wherever it may lead.

Do you folks know if anyone from CT has received an appointment yet?

Did you go to the Blue and Gold Dinner at the Officers Club in Hartford? There was a candidate there who sat at our table who said that he had received an appointment.

Oh wow. I was there. I didn't hear that. Do you know what district he was from? My DS received one nomination. The other MOCs then told him since they had so many applying, he couldn't even try for a second nomination.

I was there with my DS and my brother. The young man attended a private school in New Haven, I know he didn't live in the 5th district. He did not attend NASS or CVW. Does your DS happen to go to school in Middletown?
