Most appointments are unreported, only a handful of candidates (and parents) are on here to begin with.I only see 1 appointment from NY. Have there been any others unreported? Seems odd but I’m new to this as most of you are.

You are far from alone here! I have 3 super stressful life events going on simultaneously, on top of this entire process! I feel like I’ve been doing this military thing my whole life, I should have it down by now, but no. I’m somewhere between headless chicken and ostrich head in the sand most days. Yet we just keep on keeping on!Somehow though, life has a way of tossing a challenge or blessing right in the mix to open up space we didn’t realize we had. Or is that just me?!
Fun tid-bit. These words were uttered by Capt. Lawerence in 1813 after he was mortally wounded. Here is a link to a short back story https://www.usna.edu/100Objects/Objects/object-11.php.Don't Give Up the Ship
So this is exactly why I love this forum!! Y’all make me feel less crazy I saw my younger son’s 8ball sitting on a shelf 2 weeks ago and had to ask. Worst part was it said “It is certain”; everyday ticks by and I’m doubting the prediction skills of the 8ball! Glad we are in this together! Thanks for making me laugh and making me feel a little more sane!! Good luck all! May we all meet at Iday! Here are the Magic Eight Ball answers to apply as appropriate.
It is certain.
Reply hazy, try again.
Don’t count on it.
It is decidedly so.
Ask again later.
My reply is no.
Without a doubt.
Better not tell you now.
My sources say no.
Yes, definitely.
Cannot predict now.
Outlook not so good.
You may rely on it.
Concentrateand ask again.
Very doubtful.
As I see it, yes.
Most likely.
Outlook good.
Yes.
Signs point to yes
Yes. A nomination from your congressman/woman opens a path to appointment even if you don't win the slate. Hang in there. Those tend to be later breaking appointments. Good luck.Last Question: Ok, please forgive me if this was asked/answered previously: if the USNA appoints someone else from your congressional district and they accept. Is there any hope to get in if you only have a Congressional Nomination? Like is there a waitlist for any sort of "national" appointment or something like that.

Our understanding is (and please don’t quote us on this, but this is what we have been told by B&G, admissions and also information we have learned on this forum along the way) that there are a couple of things that could be going on that we don’t know about. 1. Your MOC might have more than one slate available if they don’t have all of their spots filed at a SA 2. The other person from your district might have gone in on a different nom and unless it’s confirmed by the MOC or appointee (because they got a phone call saying that they were that MOC‘s appointment, etc or the MOC announces it in a press release or the local news, etc) there is no way to know which nomination they were charged to 3. If you have multiple noms, especially larger pool noms like presidential, NROTC, etc. you have other opportunities for appointment through those sources. 4. If the SA wants a candidate badly enough they will find a nom source to attach them to even if they do not get their MOC appointment 5. If they don‘t get charged to the MOC that nominated them, but are still a competitive candidate, they go back into the national pool. Hope that helps. Hang in there. We’re right there with you doing laps around the anxiety pool, but worst case scenario we’ll all know something in 3 weeks…Last Question: Ok, please forgive me if this was asked/answered previously: if the USNA appoints someone else from your congressional district and they accept. No. You need a nomination. But, the SA controls some - so you might get one that you did not anticipate being available. So there are scenarios where an applicant can be appointed without a nomination? Maybe I misinterpreted…
No, a nomination is required. Where/who is comes from can be variable. So there are scenarios where an applicant can be appointed without a nomination? Maybe I misinterpreted…
Could you explain this a bit? Does this mean if a candidate does receive a nomination but another more qualified candidate is picked off of "their" slate, that they can still be offered an appointment without needing to be "charged" anywhere else?Per 10 US Code 8454(b)(5), 150 qualified alternates may be admitted. These are to be in "order of merit." These qualified alternates must have received nominations from a few different sources, including members of congress.
They need a nomination. If they get one but don’t win their slate, they can still get in. But getting in means being charged somewhere else.Could you explain this a bit? No you have to have a nomination (not for prep school) for appointment consideration. But our understanding was that you don’t know who you (or anyone else) is ”Charged” to on a nomination and that if you don’t get your MOC appointment, that doesn’t mean you’re “out”. They can charge you somewhere else. Obviously if you have other noms, you are also a part of those “pools” but the SA can also assign a candidate to one of their Nom/appt sources. So there are scenarios where an applicant can be appointed without a nomination? Maybe I misinterpreted…
In a word, Yes.Could you explain this a bit? Does this mean if a candidate does receive a nomination but another more qualified candidate is picked off of "their" slate, that they can still be offered an appointment without needing to be "charged" anywhere else?
So, to be candid, I'm not entirely sure I am following the question. If another candidate wins the slate, a second candidate from that slate can be charged to the 150 as a "qualified alternate." At least from a statutory standpoint, for that to occur, the second candidate should have been in the top 150 qualified alternates not charged elsewhere. If this isn't responsive, feel free to clarify the question.Could you explain this a bit?
