USNA Class of 2027 Waiting and Speculating

Of all my years as a candidate, the waiting this cycle has been the longest and hardest o_O
According to past posts, you are a 4th time candidate. Are you a senior in college now?

I can imagine this would be challenging.

We sure have some spectacular stories here on the forums!!

I wish you luck!!

Everyone, Thank you for posting. I helps as we wait to read of other in the same boat. I am happy to report, my DS checked his portal last night and his status finally changed. It now reads USNA conditional offer-LOA. So now we wait for a wavier for an injury that occurred in 7th grade, Does anyone know how long the waiver process takes? Do we need to do anything? He has not been contacted for any additional information and we had a letter in his file from a specialist that said his injury was 100% healed and that he has no restrictions. We are excited and cannot wait for him to have a button that allows him to accept the offer. The waiting was crazy and it seems we get to wait a little while more but getting the LOA makes it seem like a giant weight has been lifted off. These last few weeks he has been scrambling for backup plans but his heart has been for either the NA or CGA. So excited for him.
When the waiver meets the LOA, magic happens 🪄….

(Assuming the medical waiver is the LOA condition)

I cant wait any longer. What is the chances of an appointment now that I am triple Qed (guessing I am academically qualified now because I haven’t received a TWE). IS it around 40%?

It’s 100 pct if you do, 0 pct if you don’t. That’s how statistics work for me.

There isn’t any way to guess. Most should know by April 15-ish. Per USNA. Hang in there!

Where did you get that number?

Hopefully you’re not mixing it up with this statistic: About 45% of candidates who are 3Q with a nom receive offer of appointment. That was the case for a few years in recent history. (It may no longer be true.) But that does NOT mean being 3Q with a nom gives you a 45% chance. Not at all. Some will have close to 0% chance, some will have close to 100% chance. Where you sit in that continuum is anyone’s guess. Emphasis on guess.

All I can do to console you is to say, hang tight... the waiting is the hardest part, but I promise you it will be worth it no matter the outcome. Many of us have sons or daughters in the same category - Triple Q'd. We only want what's best for each other. They say to make backup plans... Don't be shy about it, make all the plans you can bc nothing is guaranteed. I'm wishing you all the luck in the world. Godspeed for any and all appointments.

Thank you!

I am currently a junior, but still have 2 1/2 years to graduate (that is if I don't get an appointment).

Once we hear that others in our congressional district have received their appointments, does that basically mean we are at the point of waiting on the TWE? Each State/District can only have so many appointed to a given SA at a time correct?

Looking at the 2026 list the last ten or so appointees said “waitlist”. Can someone expand on that.

I’m also wondering if there have been candidates who were triple qualified who have received TWEs.

Thank you

When we went to the CVW in early March, the Dean of Admission spoke to the Seniors only at the CVW. He mentioned they took a "good amount of people off the waitlist last year" - about "50 people off the waitlist". He said it's different every year so don't rely on that (every year). But they knew they were going to need the (extra) candidates early in the process so they just started sending appointments in early May. (Not all his words verbatim except the quoted ones, my interpretation of his words.)

No one knows it they are triple qualified because the 3rd Q will never be shared. You only know if you have 2 of the Qs and speculate on the 3rd.

I’m trying to understand what is the waitlist. I feel like I’m on a waitlist but it looked a little more official than my feelings. Lol
You’ll be told by admissions if you are on the waitlist. My daughter was waitlisted on April 11 last year and her status in her portal reflected that. She came off the waitlist and offered an appointment on May 25.

Scan this thread for discussion about this piece. It’s been addressed a few times.

Or, search @Capt MJ ’s posts. She addresses this often, and well.

Essentially, any fully qualified candidate can be appointed off a slate. There are some noms the SA holds control of, as well as a national pool that’s used as needed, that are used. So just bc another slate member has been appointed, does not mean the rest of the slate is done.

Until you receive a TWE? You are in the game.

Re: waitlist…at some point, around April 15th, you will receive an appointment offer, a ‘no’, a NAPS/prep offer, or a waitlist (which you must affirm in the positive). You will clearly know where you stand at some point in the next few weeks.

Hang in there.

When the puzzle is almost done, and just a few pieces are missing, Admissions even more carefully manages outstanding offers to accepted. When the acceotance deadline comes, they may offer some number (unknown) a place on a waitlist, to which they would offer the last few/unknown number of places in the class, which perhaps open up when someone changes their mind and declines after accepting, breaks a leg, whose medical does not clear satisfactorily, gets themselves arrested, etc. It is unknown how many will come off the waitlist - none, a few, some, many, a lot.

There will always be more stellar fully qualified candidates with noms than there are seats in the class.

NO!

while there are many nominations that are geographically distributed, there are also many that are not. There is not a limit on appointments from within a given state/District

I'll repost a press release from one Congressperson (USNA Grad) from last year.

Parsippany, NJ–– Representative Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) announced today the 29 students from New Jersey's 11th Congressional District appointed to the U.S. Service Academies. These students will begin their education and service careers this year at the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Military Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy, and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. Rep. Sherrill hosted an event to recognize the students this week in Denville.

"As a graduate of a service academy, I am truly honored to now have the congressional responsibility to nominate students from my district to these distinguished institutions. Each and every one of these students demonstrate impressive levels of commitment to their academics, extracurricular pursuits, and community, which will serve them well as they enter our nation's service academies. I am proud of their decision to serve our country and wish them the best of luck going forward," said Rep. Sherrill.

The release goes on to name the 9 USNA, 16 USMA, 1 USAFA and 2 USMMA appointees
