USNA Class of 2028 Waiting and Speculating

You also forgot to add that I am bad parent and you are sorry for my son.
Bro… nobody said you’re a bad parent. I would say the fact that you’ve been as involved as he have on these forums show that you care and want what’s best for your DS. But, according to people more closely associated and/or experienced with USNA Admissions and its processes, it would be really easy to come to inaccurate conclusions based on your post. Folks are just trying to minimize the chance of that happening

I wanted to like this so much….but misinformation is still presented. I don’t think there is any hope of changing Mikes mind.

*a candidate can be offered an LOA despite an ‘incomplete’ application. It’s happened before. The application does NOT have to be complete to receive an LOA. In fact, a condition of an LOA *could* be to compete their application. Candidate facing portal does not have to show CPR to be offered an LOA.

*inspire and/or CVW has NO BEARING on an offer of appointment. They are tools used to spread interest in USNA. There is no advantage to attending as far as the application goes. It’s for exposure for the candidate.

*there is no factual evidence that the IT glitch (which is simply the candidate’s view of a checkmark. Not USNA’s. IOW, the glitch is not that USNA doesn’t have the candidates materials) had any affect at all on the actual movement of applications. In fact, the opposite is true, as contacting admissions confirmed receipt.

And CPR does nothing to assist or change the wait he has. Or help with ED decision he has to make.

BTW, this post is mostly for future applicants, and/or readers experiencing ‘the glitch’. To correct misconceptions presented in @mike1979 ’s post.
You are completely right in regards incomplete applications and LOA’s. DS received two LOA’s in mid September of last year, SA 1 - he had only started the application and had not even submitted official transcripts or medical. For USNA, he was missing final transcript, and nomination. He cleared the conditions for USNA right after Thanksgiving. With all the conditions met, plus LOA, it took a little over 2 weeks for appointment to show in his portal. The advice given to him that really helped was to get his medical done early because it does get backed up towards the end of the year - not because it would increase his chances of early decision.

I feel sorry for the kid since it appears you have probably completed his entire application. Do you let him read your posts or use a computer himself? Based on my limited time on this forum there is some great advice from experienced parents and former/current members of the actual military who have stepped up and served their country and went through these processes. You have been given awesome advice multiple times yet willfully ignore and/or disregard it. However good luck to your son in the process and hopefully it is his dream/goal and not yours.

Why dont you find something else to do with your time instead of worrying about my son and feeling sorry for him. Like pickup a hobby of some sort. Fishing, stamps collecting, find a pen pal in prison, etc... If nothing comes to mind just go outside and mow the lawn. Just stop worrying about my family.

I'm unsure if I would have been better off making a separate post or posting here, but since this is the place for speculating, I'm going with here.

I've been avoiding obsessively checking my portal, but I did this morning and discovered that I've been given an LOA. Needless to say, I was very excited to receive it, but I'm actually unsure of what conditions I need to meet besides the obvious avoiding senioritis and graduating. Everything is submitted and checked off, DoDMerb is complete, and CFA is done and passed. I also have the Presidential nomination.

My dad suggested that maybe they want me to go through the MOC process to see if I get a nomination so that they have options for how to charge appointments since Presidential appointments are limited to 100. I'd like to think that's the case compared to my thought that something I've already passed is somehow going to change to something I need to work on very soon.

Either way, it was very nice to get a visit from the magic Unicorn today, but I'm still staying on the path until I reach my destination or get kicked off lol.

If you are 3Q and have a LOA, then you have VERY good chances of getting that appointment. Going for the MOC nomination would not be a bad idea, but I'm not sure it is a must have at this point.

Just be aware that the offer of appointment may not come for some time, but it looks pretty good.

If no conditions are left to be met, then it’s another hurry up and wait! It should turn into an appointment, eventually. Also, we noticed last year (I think it was at least last year) that a lot of candidates got LOAs, then an appointment came within days. It was almost like a placeholder. So that was new for us old timers and hard to discern. Congrats and good luck!

Yup, over the last two cycles, people had LOAs put into the portal with no conditions. They converted to Offers of Appointment within days.

If they are following that same trend, looks like we have 3 or 4 people who will have their appointment offer soon!!

Thank you! I will still go through the nominating process just because I also applied to the USAFA and want to cover all my bases in case something weird happens. My goal is to serve one way or another.

I'm doing my best not to get my hopes up for a quick appointment. I'm trying to look at it like regular college applications where you won't hear until December at the earliest, and quite possibly well into spring.

Thank you very much. I'd be perfectly happy to have my LOA magically turn into an appointment in a few days, but I am trying to manage my expectations. Luckily this is homecoming week at my school and there is PLENTY going on to keep me distracted.

It’s advised to apply for all noms you qualify for. Like Heatherg21 said. To ALSO include the VP nom.

The more noms you hold, the more buckets you compete in.

I am not sure about your exact situation but we had one that sounds familiar.

Both of mine , both recruited sports types, were told that nominations would be found for them if needed. But especially with my last one a lot of pressure and reminders on them from coaches for them to apply to all nomination sources and try to get a nomination on their own, which they did.

Nudging this thread for visibility and usage by those waiting for an appointment to post in the companion Class of 2028 appointment thread.

And a musical interlude to reward those who hang out here.

This is the Royal Marines Band Plymouth, appearing at USNA tomorrow night, Friday, 10/20. The RM Bands usually do martial music but also classical and contemporary.
