Value of Education

Some academies' literature declares a 'value' of the education provided. For instance, I believe (but don't hold me to it) the USCGA says it's $280,000. I can't find a similar number for the USMMA. I'm just curious what that value may be, but haven't found one online. Does anyone know what that number may be, at this time?

I can check in a little while but I believe the letter that was part of my son’s BFE this year said $260,000.

@EhzErz, do you know?

Yes, I see that now. It says $262,000. Thank you!
If you don’t mind saying, what are you using the information for? If you are comparing in some way, which I’m not sure I’d do, don’t forget that you still have some costs at USMMA. I think it’s the only academy where that is the case. Although there are some costs at the other academies, they can be covered by the “salary” paid to the students.

It's the only academy where you can make 100k+ your first year out if you make it. going from 0 to 140k is an interesting experience.

DW and I figured we paid out between $10,000 and $15,000 over 4 yrs. This includes the initial package, healthy insurance, tools (sticker shock), NEX purchases, trips to the city, and some other stuff I choose not to remember now. This does not include DW and my travel to events. They earn about $10,000 at sea. Not a bad net result, especially considering there is no debt at graduation. A sociable discussion with an AAF officer revealed no one has not gone to KP because of the lack of funds.

Here is a report of college ROI for all colleges and universities in the USA, including KP. Click this link: College ROI.
KP Ranks #10 nationally in NPV over 40 yrs.

I have successfully used this report as evidence in litigation, along with an expert whose numbers came out nearly the same.

Very impressive. Two posts in 6.5 years. I belong to a site and have made a couple posts in the last 20 years. I think I'll jump in and say something.

USMMAs proposed budget this year is $81.9M. It will produce +/- 250 grads. Assuming that budget exists entire to produce graduates (which in their case is generally a true statement), $81.9M/250 = $327,300.

In the paperwork that my DS received with his appointment is states that the education is worth roughly $262,000.

This information is typically referenced at High School Senior recognition ceremonies. Johnny has received scholarships totaling $XYZ

Additionally, it is helpful if you have a 529plan and you want to remove your money tax free because the child attended a service academy.

I find it very difficult to believe that Harvard's median debt is $7000 and USMMA is $6500. And, I have more difficulty in believing that the graduation rate at Harvard is 97%. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad to see USMMA in the chart, but it seems to contain erroneous information. Here is the chart from the link:

DS is recruited athlete, has application in and if LOA comes, is hoping to verbally commit in the coming weeks. Attached is recent piece he received on value of USMMA education:

Dear Jason,

Did you know that the value of a USMMA education is worth approximately $293,000? Wouldn’t you like to have the option to attend a college with zero cost for tuition, room and board, or books, and have the ability to graduate debt-free?

Yes they do, but not many. Plan to wait until spring instead of getting your hopes up for an LOA. Good luck!

Kings Point isn't cheap. It's in, what's basically, NYC. My parents had no money at the time, and I got ~$3k pell grants a year to survive on. It was hardly enough.

Few years after graduation I was making ~$22k a month doing one of the coolest jobs in the world, as a 25 year old. And getting to experience things money can't buy.
