Well this sucks!

BobbyJ:
Although you may not feel much like hearing it right now- you will get over the disappointment of not getting an appointment to USMA- you definitely are not alone. But keep in mind that if your goal is to be an Army officer- there are several ways to make that happen. I assume that you have some back up schools to which you have also applied- do they have ROTC? IIf you have applied for an received an ROTC scholarship you are well on your way already. If not, you can still enroll in ROTC college program and compete for an oncampus scholarship and even if you do not receive a scholarship you can still get comissioned and go on active duty as an ROTC college program graduate. Additionally you can re- apply to USMa for an appointment to the class of 2015 while going to school.
Hang in there and keep plugging

I know two people who did not get into USMA following high school. Both enlisted, began serving, reapplied, got their noms, and were appointed after a couple years. Just another way to skin a cat.

Okay, so like I've read these posts, and people make the NWL sound like it's like you're 3q'd but disqualfied nonetheless. So, if that's so, what the heck is te point of even being on the NWL and West Point not just disqualifying the candidates in the first place?

For BobbyJ

Hey,

Disappointment is HUGE; trust me, I've "been there, done that, got the letters."

I was not appointed to the USMA/USNA/USAFA/USCGA/USMMA Class of 1982 when I applied from high school.

I was crushed.

I went to school for a year, busted my butt, raised my SAT/ACT scores significantly (that was my bane).

And I was offered appointments to USMA/USNA/USAFA/USMMA Class of 1983 the next year.

And trust me, THAT was a FUN night of choosing! :thumb:

Keep the faith!

I have been in contact with both my regional and Athletic admissions officers and they both hve told me that the prep school as well as USMA are overfilled and no appointments will be made unless one or 2 kids declines heir appointments. So.....Its over =(.

Excerpts form Correspondence with regional director:
"With your ACT scores, you can become academically qualified so you would not be eligible for USMAPS."

and

"If you end up on the National Waiting List and are found to be Qualified Non-Select (QNS) then you certainly have an excellent shot at getting a 4 year ROTC scholarship as Cadet Command always pays attention to our QNS list. However, you need to have applied for one and already be speaking with ROTC. West Point does not provide ROTC scholarships to candidates."

Take aways alot of good candidates apparently applied this year, DS was not high enough on the slate, and scored too high on ACT to be accepted to USMAPS.

Thank for playing better luck next time...

Hope this is not a sign of things to come!

js,
Quick question, what is a qualified non-select? I have also applied for an Army ROTC scholarship as well as being 3q'd and on the NWL for USMA. So say if I didn't make it to USMA...I would have a good shot at getting my scholarship then? How would I go about speaking with ROTC?

USMAalltheway,

Those on the Wait list are QNS (until such time they are selected), I am pretty sure there are those that are QNS that did not make the wait list. You have applied for the AROTC Scholarship already so in theory you and others on the Wait list or the QNS category as a whole receive special consideration for the Scholarship from Cadet Command. That is my understanding of the process. Hope that helps. If anyone has different information I would love to hear it.

Supposedly this is one of the most competitive years, you can always apply again if you don't get in.

Feb or early March board acceptance/denial

Hi, has anyone been awarded a NROTC scholarship from the February or first March board? Are there rejection letters or a posting on the Navy ROTC website when applicants are denied a scholarship?
