I'm a junior interested in serving and will be applying to West Point and Army West Point.

I talked about getting fined $74 for forgetting my fishing license should how should I answer this?

"Have you ever been arrested, convicted, fined, imprisoned, placed on probation, paroled or pardoned (to include alcohol violations and misdemeanors), except for minor traffic violations? Records that are expunged, sealed, set aside, dismissed or original findings or pleas changed will require a waiver."

If I press "yes" would I need a waiver for such a small fine/offense? It was an honest mistake and it taught me to be more responsible.

I went to a municipal court, the police department, and talked to my recruiter and they said "press no" but I want your insight.

Thank you.

  • Just answer the question truthfully.
  • You are not the only person to have been fined for a minor offense and applied to become an officer.
  • @MohawkArmyROTC who is an Army ROTC recruiting officer has advised you that if it is under $300 you won't need a waiver. (source: https://www.serviceacademyforums.co...tting-fishing-license-rotc.61272/#post-615898)
  • You have already received substantial assurances that one $74 fine for fishing without a license is not going to torpedo your application.
Rephrasing your question is not going to get you different answers.

What has changed since you first asked this question that makes you wish to repeat yourself?

Ray....
When you say "recruiter" do you mean enlisted or ROTC ROO? There is a big difference.

Thanks for your answer. But what made me repeat myself was that I pressed "yes" just to check it out and it said something like "This may make you ineligible, however, you can continue your application". I'm just a bit concerned

Follow their direction....with emphasis on the ROO.

Honestly, $75 fishing violation is darn inconsequential.

My DS said "yes" to trying marijuana one time, he still received a MOC/NOM and an Army ROTC scholarship and will commission next year.

There should be a place that shows up on the application for you to explain why you clicked Yes, simply state what the fine was for and how much.

Thanks, I'll first contact an ROO though.

But it also said something about waiver? or being ineligible?

Time for you to sit down and make a list of all your questions and then speak to the ROO, asking continuos questions here is not efficient.
