I would investigate AFROTC deeper now. I believe they also get a financial bump for certain languages. Have her talk to the CoC at Yale.
~ I don't know how it works...lump sum stipend or more money paid to the bursar. They (HQ AFROTC) have critical languages and Russian might be one of them
~~ Beware the AF can say if you go down this path, and if they say this is a critical manning issue, by accepting she might have to go whatever career filed they say.
I believe she can apply for a summer training experience.
~ AROTC posters like Jcleppe, Bull and Clarskson can tell you more about this. I think it is called GO.
~~ It is very popular among AROTC, but AFROTC cadets are eligible too.
From the gist I know of it, it is an immersion program in country (IE she may go to Russia) during the summer. They go overseas for a month or so as a cadet. They pick up the bill. There is an AFROTC cadet that applied this year. Unfortunately I can't remember which poster. You might want to a search GO or pm Bull for info.
I have never read anything, but positive experiences regarding this program. She will have to compete for it, but still it is an experience that can help in the long run when applying for Med school or if she goes Intel.
When you visit USAFA find out if they have a program like that. Just make sure she has investigated the ROTC program too.
