Which ROTC scholarship is the most prestigious?

apologies everyone,
I was way too harsh

My son came home to sign his tax return this weekend. We went over to see our neighbor and his friend RP(2nd Marines 1942 to 46) last night. He spoke of Okinawa in detail. There must be some sort of real clarity of memory in old age. He talked how the Marines on the LST passed anti aircraft shells to the sailors during the Kamikazi attacks. Even the Marine officers obeyed the sailors. He told us on the island of the Army soldiers who were relieved by his regiment saying they were so glad the Marines are here. He said they told the Army soldiers they were glad to see them too. He talked about the Navy and Marine pilots after a strafing run would fly back over their line and tip their wings in respect and salute to the Marines on the ground. I came back and read the thread. I never was in the Armed forces but I think that respect was still there between those American men and women in Afganistan and Iraq this past 10 years regardless of their duty. We are all Americans and that is the ultimate prestige.

Sorry anyway for being a little rough.

One last challenge from RP to all of you in ROTC. It is what he talks to my son about. He always said "we had great officers." This is what you need to understand. You will have to inspire and lead them. Are you preparing yourself now to lead American men and women in such a way that 60 or 70 years from now they would say that about you. Realize the things they did to inspire this man to say that now. It is going to be your turn. You will be next.

NorwichDad - that was a very moving summation. I copied it and sent it to my son. I think it is easy for cadets to lose sight of what their true job will be as officers. While they're very busy focusing on PT and Ranger Challenge and CULP and the myriad of other experiences that ROTC encompasses, a gentle reminder that their real responsibility is to lead men is never wasted.

Thank you ~

I would suggest they get reminded every once in a while about their responsibility to lead SOLDIERS (men and women) during their ROTC classes and training. As I teach the freshmen about the Be, Know, Do concept of Army leadership this week we are taking a look at the Blackhawk down incident, and SSG Leigh Ann Hester http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leigh_Ann_Hester . Keep those gentle reminders coming, but rest assured the combat veteran that is teaching their ROTC class is reminding them also.

ClarksonArmy - I'm honestly not certain if you're agreeing with me, taking exception to my use of the word "men" to mean soldiers, or to my forwarding what I thought was a meaningful quote to my son.

Regardless, I can assure you that as a combat-veteran mom who went through ROTC and served on active duty during Desert Storm, I am aware that both genders populate the US military. And, as confident as I am that my son's cadre are teaching him properly, I hope that never precludes me from chiming in as well. If we are smart, we are able learn from many different sources, including FM 22-100 and our mothers .

Women can speak for themselves! Women are not soldiers, they are in support roles.

This thread has the potential to get ugly very quickly and is way off the original mark.

I urge subsequent readers to refrain from jumping into the latest discussion direction and use restraint.

From my perspective, enough has been said. Let it drop.

if you all recall, bjb2016 account is being used by a parent, and a young daughter. The daughter sneeks on and make derogatory posts to get a reaction. The mother later came in to explain the double use of the account, and that the daughter had been repromanded.

Apparently the daughter snuck back onto the Board! Parent, a rerpromand in in order!! OR if it's you, you're just plain whack.

Reprimand.

bjb2016... wouldn't it just be easier to create a new password and not give it to your daughter? would save your hand and her behind.

I am with USMCGrunt on this one.

Beware we are getting very close to going down the rabbit hole and a thread being locked.

I fail to see the rabbit hole,

I thought everyone was talking about leadership in the last few posts, sounded pretty civil to me.
