2012 USAFA Summer Seminar Students

I applied on day 1 and I was not denied yet but the fact that others in the towns around me got in (I know because people on this site posted where they were from) and i am still "under consideration." This, to me, is a negative indicator.

yeah i have no idea, i know no one from my school has been accepted or even applied, only one person from my school applied to the academy itself and they are a grade ahead of me obviously. what area are you in if you dont mind me asking?

yeah i dont think he would reveal that, i just want to find out already its killing me

The less you think about it, the faster the time goes. Yes, I know, I can't stop thinking about it either, but it's worth a try:thumb:

I'm from New York near the city. I also applied to SLS and NASS. Still waiting on NASS, but surprisingly got into SLS a few days after the application opened. I recommend applying to all three (and USCGA AIM if you want to too) seminars because, while they do cater to each academy's purpose, the main goal of the summer seminars is to give rising seniors a glimpse into the service academies. It will show what life is like more or less. If you don't want to, be my guest, but the seminar applications also serve as Preliminary Applications (well, at least for USNA!).

I didn't receive my acceptance email until March 15th. It's still VERY early. Don't fret if you haven't been accepted yet.

Don't fret if you haven't been accepted yet.

And even if you ultimately aren't accepted, don't stop trying. The summer seminars try to cater to the candidates who usually would not be able to make the trip to the academy. It is a lot of marketing.

Hey everyone. My name is Jason and I just signed up for the forum. I signed up for the summer seminar about a week ago and haven't found out if I got accepted yet but I have been keeping in touch with my liason and he wants to interview me for the summer seminar. Is getting an interview normal? I haven't heard of anyone being interviewed for the seminar before and I'm not sure if it's a good thing

Well I just submitted my application. I'm just hoping that applying so much later than everyone else won't be what kills my chances. I had to wait forever to get a transcript from my school, so that I could get all of the information I needed. I'm sure all of you here have heard this question a thousand times but I'm going to go ahead and ask it. Do you think applying this late will hurt my chances? Thanks.

This is normal, and actually a good thing. You will get to know each other before you actually start your application to USAFA. There is a wealth of information with your ALO! Getting to know them actually will make things easier/better in the long run.

@kdc246- thank you very much. I'm relieved to hear it is not so abnormal

@Austin1- applying this late shouldn't really hurt you. They have a rolling application so they accept people throughout the whole application period. I'm sure it doesn't help you but it shouldn't kill your chances. And if it makes you feel better I only applyed last week

Okay great. I have been wanting to get into the Academy ever since I was in elementary school, so I figured Summer Seminar would be a really big step in getting there. Good luck with your application, i wish you the best.

Thanks a lot and I wish you the best too.

I feel like the weakest part of my entire application is the fact that I didn't get signed up for the first SAT available at my school this year. Therefore, I have to wait to take it in the next few months, so I don't have any SAT scores. I only had my PSAT scores to put on the application. Other than that I feel pretty good.

Regarding applying late- I would say it does hurt your chances of being accepted to the summer seminar unless you're the most brilliant applicant. I applied late(this time last year) and was put on the waiting list as a result and in the end was denied. Since it is rolling admissions, every day you wait to apply hurts your chances because the spots are filling up simultaneously. I ended up going to the Naval Academy Summer Seminar and for me that was helpful because I got to at least get a glimpse of life at a service academy since it is somewhat similar. Upon saying this, I would encourage everyone who is at least interested in the least bit in another service academy, apply to their summer seminar because it is a priceless experience and works as a back up in case your first choice summer seminar doesn't work out.

Hey thanks for the advice, I will probably try and apply for the Naval Academy's Summer Seminar if the application is still open. When I apply to go to the Air Force Academy I actually plan on applying for the Naval Academy, as well as the Coast Guard Academy. I have always had a passion for aviation, and my dream is to become a fighter pilot. I've wanted to fly since I was in elementary school. Coast Guard would be my last resort, but I just want to become a pilot even if it means joining the CG (too bad they don't have fighters...)
