My mother’s uncle (does that make him my “great uncle”?) took me to my first major league game when I was 7. It was the Giants at god-forsaken Candlestick Park, with its green concrete, swirling winds and frigid night air. I loved it. This was back when doubleheaders were a thing, and he brought me to a couple per year. To this day, I love malts and peanuts because that’s what I had back then.Any baseball fans here?
From there I became a lifelong Giants fan. So you can imagine how 2010, 2012 and 2014 were for me. I still love listening to the local broadcast team and I catch a game whenever I’m in SF (that “new” ballpark is just amazing).
The fact that this year’s Giants won a franchise-best and major league-best 107 games, but still fell short of the World Series, is part of the beauty of this game that’s built on failure.
