2020 Hopefuls

Nodiva, there was a thread a few weeks ago talking about the numbers for USAFA. 200 is pure rumor. Can't remember the exact number, but it was 10-20 or so that was briefed at Parent's Weekend.

I actually don't think USNA is giving more LOAs. The trend has been downward. Also 2018 had some anomalies with redistricting impacts. I think it's just perception being on this forum. It's only my opinion of being around this forum for a few years, but I think this forum tends to draw very driven candidates. That drive has helped set them apart during high school and really have stellar stats. Also you see the appointments already are Presidential Noms, which means you have military parent(s) who are either familiar with the process or have access to those who know this process. These are just my thoughts, so they aren't worth anything! It's great to see the positive news, for those who aren't, hang in there, it's a long ride. The bottom line is an appointment now or March is all the same!

Great news on this September Friday!

DS just received an email with a fully qualified offer of appointment for USNA 2020! We're in Northern Virginia, so I thought we'd be waiting to find out til next April since he's not a recruited athlete. Concur with proudofmy boy that these things seems to be going out on Fridays. Army-Navy games are going to be a little awkward around our house from now on! Don't think I'll be ever be able to say Beat Army out loud, but I'm sure proud of our new sailor. :)

Maybe he'll be like our DS - got LOA to USNA after having attends NASS. After his appointment, he went on his CVW there and loved it. All along he kept saying USNA, USNA, USNA. Well then after that, he also got his appointment to USMA, and did his overnight visit to West Point. All of a sudden, he decided USMA was where he wanted to go! So now we still have our DD who is in NROTC, but DS is a Plebe and DH (USMA '83) is glad we don't have to go to USNA football games (except Army/Navy, of course!)

+1 NavyHoops, congratulations to the candidates who received offers of appointment and LOAs. For the candidates (and their parents) still completing their applications and nomination packets, hang on for the long ride!

Yep. Very similar. He went to CVW last February, then NASS over the summer. While he applied for USMA, he and his older brother really like the maritime environment. Army-Navy games will be an interesting event it looks like. :-) No worries though…getting selected or any one of the service academies is a truly exemplary accomplishment. Very proud of him and more than willing to swallow a little "Old Grad Pride". By the way, my first company commander was an '83 USMA grad. Thanks for the reply!

Hi Anne and thanks! We are in Virginia's 1st District, but he was appointed on a Presidential nomination. Our congressional sources don't close out their candidate submission deadlines until the beginning of October.

Thanks. I can't even picture where district one is. It must be right outside of DC. Yes- very competitive! Well done!

Does anyone know approximately how long remedials take to be processed and how to know if they have been received?

Jbelonga, I had two remedials this year. One was administrative for a prior shoulder surgery and one required an echocardiogram for evaluation of a heart murmur. The administrative remedial was posted to DoDMERB within 5 days of putting it in the mail. The echocardiogram took about 3 weeks. All in all, I was DQ'd about a month after they asked for my remedials and then I received my medical waiver from USNA a few days later.

BFE for DS arrived today, 1 week after email notification...It is Real now.....

DS got the email for fully qualified appointment last Friday too...been looking forward to that BFE. Hopefully it arrives today as well. Congrats! Looks like our sons may be classmates!

I'm assuming all of the appointments that are leading to these BFEs are all presidential nominees (kids of veterans). Right?

I did see a JROTC on the Forum. I'm sure most are Presidential. I'm not sure what other category noms are out there at this time.

Supt's noms. Probably really only see those maybe for an athlete this early. Those are one of those noms that folks get moved in and out as they pick up other noms.
