2020 Hopefuls

DD was offered an appointment this week. Showed up on portal Tuesday. Very proud of her.
How did she get nominated so quick?
Congrats...Is she playing a sport?...We are assuming that her Nomination was a Presidential...Is that correct? How proud you must be...
Yes, she has a presidential nomination and is a recruited athlete. Stellar academic stats with leadership as well. Her hard work makes her very deserving of this honor and we are very proud of her. She got notification via the portal and the BFE a few days later. A few days prior to the portal update she also got a call from Admissions letting her know it was in the works.

My daughter has interviews with US Rep and two US Senators in late November/early December. Approximately how long after that would she hear about a nomination if one were offered?

It could vary from a few days until the end of January. I think the best way to get a ballpark idea is to clarify your post with which state you are from. If you would like to keep that private than go on to the nomination forums or the search tool bar and see if you can see posts that are from your state.

Thanks...that timeframe is what I wanted...a few days until the end of January is as detailed as I am looking for. THANKS!

One more question...my child has received an email stating that she is being given an LOA. The portal was updated to reflect that fact. It has been one week since that happened and we have not received a hard copy in the mail. Will USNA mail an actual letter to us? I thought that I read on these forums previously that they do mail a letter and that copies are sent to the relevant MOC's, but since a week has passed and we have not received any additional notification, we are wondering if the email is all we will be getting, in which case perhaps we would need to notify the MOC's on our own? Thanks for any information you might have.

I would always verify with the MOCs prior to an interview that they have received a copy of it. If they don't mail a letter then snap the portal and send it with a cover letter. Never leave anything to chance. It's a good learning lesson for promotions later in life... Verify everything before a board.

DS has his LOA and he has turned in applications for nominations to all four sources. (Two senators, one congressman, and the VP). Now all we can do is hope and pray. Good luck everybody. (Spins the roulette wheel of luck)

JOYOUS FRIDAY!!!!
DS just received email notification with Offer of appointment. He received a Presidential NOM, clear physical, not a recruited athlete. Looks like Thu's are board days with notifications hitting the streets on Friday. Still crying......

Congrats POMB and TriService to you and your appointees!!

My son is a plebe/2019 and it is going well. USNA is all that and more than he(and his Mom and I) thought it would be. As you have likely read, I-Day WILL be the hardest day of their lives. They'll be so much more than tired mentally and physically when you see them at 630p or so that day. PS will be hard too, but about halfway through it begins getting a bit easier... when the more positive detailers take over.

One thing that will make PS so much better for your plebes next year will be if they are in GREAT shape. To give them a bar to measure against... to max the PTR you need 102 push-ups/2min followed by 102 sit-ups in 2min followed by 1.5 mile run in <8:12(for men). Only abut 45/1191 reached this at the end of PS this past year. Your kids should start yesterday while on the high on the appointment and work much harder than they think they need to.

Again Congrats!! Big things ahead!

Great news on this September Friday!

DS just received an email with a fully qualified offer of appointment for USNA 2020! We're in Northern Virginia, so I thought we'd be waiting to find out til next April since he's not a recruited athlete. Concur with proudofmy boy that these things seems to be going out on Fridays. Army-Navy games are going to be a little awkward around our house from now on! Don't think I'll be ever be able to say Beat Army out loud, but I'm sure proud of our new sailor. :-)

Congrats..See you June 30th.

I'm from deep south Georgia (only about 40 minutes from Tallahassee, FL), and I received the e-mail from the Naval Academy itself as well as having my candidate page updated.

After scouring these posts for the Class of 2019, I can't believe the number of LOA's this year! Either people didn't post them or they've gone crazy in the Admin office giving them out for the class of 2020. We were told that they gave out more LOA's then they could accommodate for the class of 2018 so maybe they were just gun shy last year? At any rate, Congrats to all!

Side note: A friend who has a son at Air Force Academy told me that over 200 of the incoming class left before school started! Can this be so?
