2020 Hopefuls

Got my appointment email on Friday! I'm so excited!

What nomination you got plus what were your sat or act scores?

I had the presidential nom, however the academy told me to continue applying for my moc noms. Have yet to interview for either of those yet, though.
My SAT was a 2100- 680 CR, 730 Math, 690 Writing
My ACT was a 32 composite-34 Math, 29 English (those are the only 2 USNA looks at)

My app is complete pending review even though DODMERB sent back a remedial request. That is odd.

NOM is ROTC Honor School.

I'll assume it's usna. That is going to say complete pending review until you loa or get appointed. That's what I was told when I asked the admission counselor.

DS received notice of conditional offer of appointment today during his interview with congressional staff (second of three). They received notice of this before us so it came as a nice surprise. Confirmed on the admissions site.

Congratulations to your DS and family! (Sounds like he nailed the interview ;))

^^ I believe what that poster is saying is their son was told by the NOM committee that USNA had recently informed them of an LOA being issued. MOC don't issue LOA's, only USNA does that. I interpret that post to say their son found out he got an LOA during the interview. One would NOT get an LOA for doing a great job at the MOC NOM interview (2 separate processes.)

Congratulations. So happy for your DS.

I apologize for the misunderstanding. You are exactly right. The LOA comes from USNA. I was just trying to make a joke... wink, wink...

Correct. The MOC informed him of his LOA which was confirmed after the interview via the candidate porthole. Hopefully, this makes it more likely that he will be on a slate. Difficult in MD 5th district. I heard that DS's high school had 24 applicants to USNA.

This is our family's second go-around with USNA. First son was a medical DQ two years ago (red/green deficiency). Second son is similar in academic stats (top 5%), but 100 points lower on SAT. Both had two varsity sports, but second son has more leadership credentials, higher PFT, and athletic accolades (all-county two sports). I also think he wants to serve and that has come across during interviews and essays. Additionally, he has received some very good recommendations (one in particular from a senior 06 who is very respected at the academy). So, it all added up to a better candidate profile I think.

Regardless, still need the nom...

I got a letter from USNA that came in a TWE. I was scared, because my application is now finished, along with a nomination (ROTC Honor School).

So given that I was frightened I already started opening the letter with a bit of dismay.

It was an invitation to the Admissions Forum that I had attended three days earlier.
Silly mail carrier!

My DS got one too 2 months ago and about died when his brother handed him his mail!

If a MOC or senator lists a student as their first nom candidate, does that effectively mean that the remainder of the candidate's application is viewed on an up or down basis as opposed to being viewed against other candidates?

Got an LOA two days ago... I checked my phone in class, and everyone was wondering why I was smiling so much lol. I know it doesn't really mean I got in officially, but it still means something . Now I'm waiting to hear from my congressman and senators. Just had my interview with my MOC yesterday. Hopefully I'll hear back soon.

Received an LOA friday! I had just finished a tough Chemistry test, and was also getting over a rough week. I checked my email and bursted from my chair! I even forgot some stuff in class after the bell rang. All I need now is a nomination.

Congrats to you both! Are either of you being recruited or do you have stellar academics?
