2027 State Nominations Thread

When DS went to his MOC interview, the panel told him that they limit their nominations. As in they would only give out four or six noms, not ten for each academy. Any ideas as to why noms would be limited in a competitive city/district?
Senators and Representatives are free to run their processes how they wish, including submitting no names at all, along with various forms of in-state collaboration such as not duplicating names across slates or just giving 1 nom to a candidate, regardless of how many SAs they applied to or how the candidate ranked them. It is indeed mind-boggling to understand what rationale might be used to not submit the max number on a slate.

Hi, I'm applying for the nomination in District 16 of New York and I was wondering how competitive people think it is. I received my Letter of Assurance in July and have completed the entirety of my application by the deadline which was earlier this month. With the nomination being the only thing left I need to get an appointment, I was wondering how competitive do you think it will be to get it? Also, how competitive are the Senators in NY?
Let your congressman know you got an LOA, my son (last year) sent the LOA to the congressman's office, and it was brought up in his interview by the interviewer. MOC will know you are in if you get the NOM. (assuming DODMERB, CFA are good)

From Illinois:

My son just got the Dist 3 Rep nom posted to his portal. We were worried because her website says she will interview ALL applicants during November and advise applicants of her nom on Dec 1st and he never heard anything. She lost her election so we were hoping she'd still submit noms. My son called her to follow-up when he didn't hear about an interview. No response but the nom posted in his portal last night so that's a good enough response in my book. :)

No word from either senator but their timelines were about a month later and I think they wait to see who the Reps select so that they don't overlap.

Anyone heard from Cruz/Cornyn from Texas?
Last year my DS received TWE from Cornyn mid December and from Cruz on Christmas eve. For what I read here someone else also received TWE from Cruz on Christmas eve on 2020, he probably sends around mid December and it is not the perfect timing.

I had signed up to USPS to see what was coming each day and for some reason Cruz' letter was "a piece of mail that do not have an image for is included in today's mail". So he got a not so pleasant early Christmas present when he picked up the mail.

Hi. Anyone here interview with Senator Tillis from North Carolina this weekend? If so, did you feel your interview was rushed? Thanks!
My DD interviewed and felt it was rushed. She said that they didn't really process her answers before asking the next question. She was also told by the lady in the waiting room to not shake their hands, they were on a tight schedule. She said the interview lasted 10 minutes. Her other interviews went well. Sen Burr's interviewer was very nice and it took about 15 minutes. For Rep Murphy she was in the interview between 20-30 minutes.

Sounds like they must have had a lot of candidates to get through. I hope she hears good news soon!!

For NC, Our DD was notified by Senator's Burr's office on 11/10 that she was receiving a nom to USNA and his interview was on 11/5/22. It appeared in the portal on 11/15. We interviewed with Rep Murphy back in October and she noticed in her portal for USNA a nom from him on 11/28/22 but still no communication from his office. The next day, she saw the nom from him in her USAFA portal as well. We are waiting for Sen Tillis now with fingers crossed. Once DoDMERB comes through, she's complete. She qualified for CFA at summer seminar.

WOW! Congrats to your DD! All great, great news for her...very happy for your family! Is Sen Tillis for USNA or USAFA? Either way...she looks all set!

Thank you! Yes, great news so now she's in the lonnnnng wait. She was very very excited about Senator Burr's office! She really felt like she connected with the interviewer and they were so kind to her in their communications. Sen Tillis was for USNA as well.

How long does it usually take a MOC nomination to hit the portal? They said their office would send the info over that day. My son got the call the
Wednesday before Thanksgiving (knowing nothing would be entered the next four days). Just wondering. He has an LOA to USNA and the only condition was the nomination (already qualified CFA and Medical), so he is checking often (can't blame him).

Is there any downside for an applicant to call the MOC office to ask when nomination decisions will be released? (also, any downside of a parent calling--not to ask about my kid, but just to find out the timeline)?

My gut says I would just advise that any communication should come from the applicant, not the parent. And, honestly just being patient and know that they have to meet the 31 January deadline to submit their nominations.

If you call as the parent, I would probably not leave a name so they don't negatively attribute it to your child. I did call once only because the office hours are when my son is in school and I didn't know if a live human would even answer to justify him being pulled out of school to a phone the call. I was able to ask my general question and get an answer without them asking who I am. But if you are leaving a name or asking something specific, I would make sure it's your child who calls.
