2028 State Nominations Thread

DS received interviews for both Senators Scott & Rubio for USNA, which is his first choice and he had to select just one. He also has an application open for USMA. Should he ask the representative for a USMA nomination or can they be transferred if he receives an appointment to USMA, but not USNA? Or do we better our odds & stick with his first choice only? His heart is really only with USNA. USMA is plan B.

Nominations do not “transfer.” Elected officials can put up to 10 names on a slate for each spot they are filling for an incoming class at a SA.

The general advice around here is being consistent about nominations, not trying to game it out by choosing different SAs as the number one pick.

Using reverse engineering, if the goal is to serve in the Navy or Marine Corps as a commissioned officer, than interim decisions and choices reflect that. Alternate plans would also include NROTC and reapplication, if necessary, which brings with it an opportunity to apply for a NROTC nom in the next cycle. A significant percentage of each class is made up of reapplicants, so if his heart, mind and gut are with Navy or Marine Corps, then that’s is the pole star he steers by.

But, if he does want a shot at attending USMA and feels he would be happy going Army with no thinking about ”the one that got away,” he needs a nom, so adjust strategy accordingly and see how it turns out.

It’s difficult in states where the competition is so numerous that elected officials collaborate to not duplicate names across their slates.

Thank you, @Capt MJ, for taking the time to answer so many questions on the forum. Your advice is always on point. DS applied to USMA really under the advice of BGOs/FFOs at a couple of Service Academy days in the area. They said apply to all & take any appointments you get, because they're all great & have similar programs. However, I think with the nomination factor makes this unrealistic, at least in areas like Florida. When I asked DS the questions with your viewpoint, DS said it would indeed feel like "the one the got away". He's set for the November board of NROTC- Marine Corps option. We will just go "all in" for Navy-Marine Corps and hope it works out. Thanks again!

I know you guys probably get this question a lot and its probably pretty annoying by now but......

I wanted to know about how many or how competitive district 11 (GA) is for congressional nominations. I would like to have a rough estimate in my head. Is it tens, hundreds, thousands of applicants each year? I would preferably like to know for each service academy.

that's basically all.

Have you searched your MOC’s website for press releases or info? Sometimes they disclose information.

Have you reached out to MOC staff? It was my son’s experience that each staff he dealt with was professional and helpful.

A competitive district only requires one great candidate.

Thanks. I sent an email to my representative's staff. I'll see what she says. And I just realized I posted this in the wrong place lol. oh well

DS has called and emailed the IL Senators multiple times and has not received a response. The answer to the question is not found on their website either, so I'm hoping someone here has the information. Does Sen Durbin and Sen Duckworth want superscore test scores or best single sitting? Thanks in advance for any help.
This is a little late, but I got a letter in the mail a few days ago from Sen. Durbin notifying me that my application has been marked as complete! I'm not sure if they do interviews but I haven't gotten word about it yet lol.

My DS got the same letter. There won't be any interviews with Durbin or Duckworth. Hopefully we will find out if they gave a nomination before Christmas.

My current one applying rec’d it too - so nice as my previous one didn’t get that kind of confirmation. I agree -there most likely won’t be interviews for either (there were none in 2020). Durbin notified nominations around mid-December (in 2020). My oldest was notified on 12/11/20 via email. I feel like Duckworth was later but since he didn’t get one from her I didn’t pay too much attention 😜….

Thanks for the info and good luck this time around too! Yes, it was nice to get that letter confirming his packet was turned in and complete. Still waiting to get confirmation from Duckworth and his congressman.

Thank you! Good luck 🍀 to you as well! He still needs to turn in the other two. They are basically done ✅ - but a later due date allowed for a hopefully better SAT score to be submitted. We’ll see 😬😵‍💫….

As I was typing out my earlier post, my son got an email from his congressman that he has an interview Nov 16. Yay!! Good luck on your son's next SAT. Mine took it again in August and raised it a little. He's hoping to be done. Lol

My DD did not get one from Scott either. Great test scores and GPA, captain of rowing team, Girl’s State, SLE, Inspire Program. Same message. Fingers crossed for Rubio!
Scott's office reached out and was very helpful, explained the process and really took time to hear out concerns. DS has interview with Rubio and Mills so fingers crossed. Good luck to your DD, I am sure she will excel with those accolades.

You must be close by! We went to Mills Academy Day but we are actually in Soto’s district. DD’s interview with Rubio is on Saturday in WP. Good luck!

Did they say how many they chose for interviews? We've heard Scott chooses from the entire state as 1 group and Rubio selects a few from each area, but not sure if thats true. DS was scheduled 4th to be interviewed on Saturday. Only 1 of the 3 before him showed up. The candidates were supposed to check in 20 minute prior to their 10 minute slot. No one was there waiting wen he finished either. I'm clueless on why there would be ANY no shows, but 3 out of 5? Good luck tomorrow!

Are you sure the missing interviewees were to be interviewed in person? My son interviews with Sen Rubio’s board this weekend. He was given the choice of in person in Miami or Niceville or via video chat. He is unable to be in Miami this weekend so will do via video.

They were in-person only. Very clearly said no rescheduling allowed. And everyone had to accept the appointment with an RSVP or be canceled. DS said thee board members and staff were a bit surprised too.

Hi! Has anyone heard anything back from Sherrod Brown or Max Miller?

Last year, my interview for Sherrod Brown's nomination was conducted on October 22nd. It is currently October 20th and I haven't heard anything.

Max Miller's application notes that interviews will be conducted from October 24th through October 31st.

I personally haven't heard anything from Sherrod Brown as well, but I've heard back from JD Vance. Im not too sure about Max since I probably live in another district.
