Anyone hear for AROTC?

Take deep breaths and work on plan B and the FAFSA.

Plan B, C, and D are made. FAFSA done. Nerves still frayed, but thanks for the advice:redface: Did you say 4 more years?! YIKES!!!

As for contact from his colleges. One emailed and asked if he was still interested and wanted to answer any of his questions. DS also put in for their host school and he said the cadets at his school often outrank cadets at the host school. Hmmm.....not reading into this!

And the nerves get worse, I was talking to the SAI at my JROTC program who had been in contact with the PMS at the school i chose as my first choice. He told me that "Even if I didn't get selected by the board, I should remain positive."

This, while positive on the surface, worries me.

No need to fret. Not every comment is significant. Sometimes it's just people making conversation. And he may have been alluding to some knowledge he might have about on campus scholarships - hence his comment. It may have absolutely nothing to do with the 4 year high school scholarship. In fact it might have nothing to do with anything. Stay calm, breathe deep.

I just have a question, on my status webpage it changed my medical from "not received" to "received" even though i never handed in any sort of medical exam or form. Does this mean anything? is it a mistake that I need to fix?

Danbucchin... This change was seen on several applicants status page this Monday.

No you should be fine - for some, there status went from "not received" to "received", where said applicants never completed the DoDMERB physical - myself included. So, you're fine ... although, giving credit to Jcleppe, this "could be seen as a good omen."

I'm starting to feel discouraged. DS's medical still says "not received". Is the lack of status change a bad sign? I know many applicants have seen recent changes even though they have yet to submit medical info.:frown:

Same worry here....

I wouldn't read too much into the changes, while it could be seen as a good sign, realize CC is always slow with updates.

Last year several applicants were sent to get their physical before being awarded a scholarship. Some of those were not awarded scholarships, some that were not sent to get their physicals were awarded scholarships.

It's really hard to say one way or the other, this is the first time changes to the medical status have been seen to change before the results are posted. CC remains a mystery in the way they do things, just when you think you have them figured out, they change things again.

Hopefully you will all see some status updates tomorrow, unless they decide to just not post anything until the letters arrive. Like I said, nobody can figure CC out.

Good luck to you all

Our MSIII lab was 5.5 hours long today full of patrolling. Oh how I wish I could go back to the days of only stressing over a scholarship...

Good luck to everyone as letters begin to be sent out.

I mentioned to my DS that the forum was waiting for scholarship updates and that it was confusing to figure out what CC is up to this year. DS laughed, he agrees with you, if only he could just worry about a scholarship...
and that basically CC was the organized part of the Army..

See, parents and applicants, in a year or so you will all be laughing about this craziness (makes for great family inside jokes - brooms around here always get a chuckle) and still wondering just what the heck the Army is doing next. Try very hard not to obsess(yeah, this coming from the lady who took part in the 2011 January thread:rolleyes:) and get out this weekend and DO something together - see a movie, get outside/weather permitting, clean out some closets - ANYTHING that doesn't involve hitting refresh every ten minutes.

My thoughts are will you all - good luck and may time pass quickly:thumb:

The status page for my DS has changed to indicate he was awarded a scholarship.

Just another hopeful Mom here watching this forum everyday. I have a few questions the experts here.

1. If my DS gets a scholarship to one school but wants to attend another, what is the process for trying to have it transferred? Is this all done through Cadet Command? Would the school have a say at all? Is there a formal process or simply a phone call to CC?

2. Obviously even if you receive the scholarship you still have to be medically cleared. What are some of the reasons that one might not get cleared? These days, so many people take meds for one thing or another...(zyrtec for allergies, low dosage of prozac, etc...) I'm just wondering how difficult/easy it is to pass the medical exam.

Good luck to everyone who is waiting to hear! Hopefully today is the day...

My DS page now indicates he was awarded a scholarship to his first choice school. Thanks for making this wait more bearable with your insight and humor.

I just checked and my DS got a scholarship! But it was to his 4th choice -- Rutgers. The page only lists this one school. Do you think the letter will include other schools? So I'm really interested in the answer to the question I asked above about transferring the scholarship. He got accepted to his top choice school and would really like to go there.

Where are you seeing these updates? is it on the scholarship status check page where you have to log in with SSN and DOB, or is it on the portal where you have to log in with a UID and PW?

Hopeful.

1. He would have to ask them to transfer the scholarship, and this is done after all of the scholarships are awarded. I believe it is April/May time frame.

Clarkson and Marist can give you all the ins and outs.

2. DoDMERB is typically easy, especially if you have kept a good record of his medical records. He will most likely not go to his family doc, but a DoDMERB doc.

They will offer a choice of a couple. It is up to you to get the appointment. There is a limited amount of time that you are allowed to set up the appointment. I believe it is around 45 days to make the appointment, that is just to make it, not necessarily have the appt. It will be a complete physical including going to an optometrist along with the reg doc.

As far as DQing it is a case by case situation. Basically the rule of thumb is they will go back to their 13th b'day for some scenarios, and they must be off prescriptions for a specific amount of time to not start that DQ.

Asthma is the biggie where kids get tripped up on because they have filled the script, thus it is current on their records.

Peanut allergies are another one.
Prozac is going to be a biggie since it is for mood disorder.
Some kids even got DQ'd for accutane for acne.

Understand DoDMERB DQs, the branches waive the DQ. Unfortunately in this current military, the waivers are getting less and less. The reason why is once they waive it, they are on the hook from a medical standpoint when they are commissioned.

The other reason even what one would assume is silly (i.e. allergies) it comes down to the mission of the branch. Hard to send a guy into the Afghan mountains if he needs to get an allergy shot once a month. Plus, it puts at risk the lives of those that serve with them.

Like scholarships it is about the WHOLE and not just a part.

Out here on the West Coast... woke up this morning, checked the forum, saw lots of activity posted since last night, immediately checked DS's status, and thrilled to see he has been awarded a scholarship! States his second choice (which is great), but also curious if the letter will show possibly more than 1 school. Congrats and good luck to all today.

There's another thread going where people are posting if they got a scholarship...so I guess it's best if everyone posts there.
