Appointments Left?

Hello everyone,

Sorry for bothering you. I have a quick question which I know has been answered although I just want to ask it again for clarification. So far, the class of 2021 appointment list seems to be big. Are there still plenty of appointments to go out this month or have they sent out the majority? I am stressing out a little bit :). (I am also concerned as my portal shows that some of my documents have been reviewed on February 3rd and I have not heard anything back).

I appreciate any comment/insight.

Thank you.

Last couple of years, there were a lot of USAFA appointments mid-March.

However, I only stayed in a Holiday Inn, so I can't tell you with certainty that they will do the same thing this year.

Typically the middle of March will be the big push...

Acceptance deadline is April 15 this year vs May 1 so hope they pull it ahead by the same 2 weeks . . .

The list may look long, but historically it will finish out @130+, thus it is really only half way there. Keep up the hope!

Typically, the Appointment thread represents roughly 10% of the entire appointments given. If that number holds true for this year, we could "guess-timate" around 500-600 appointments may have been given at this point, which again, would be only about half the appointments out right now. Typically, mid March is a big wave of appointments that continue until about mid April. There will be more trickle out, probably all the way up until I-Day. Our DS received his appointment in mid-March. Hang in there ! Almost there!

Badge250 is right on with this point. For the 2020 appointment list there were just over 130 appointments listed. Considering that over 1100 entered I-Day with the Class of 2020 you can see that this forum is only a small representation. And the appointments will keep coming, right up until I-Day. While it can be stressful at times, hang in there!

Remember; the academy can't really give out appointments from the NATIONAL POOL, until they have finished giving out appointments from the MOC slates first. The MOC slate appointments are MANDATORY. They also account for almost HALF of all appointments.

After the MOC slates are done, the academy will look at other slates such as presidential, ROTC, and a number of other military related slates.

After that, per regulations, they will go to the national pool and give out as many appointments are needed to "FILL THE CLASS".

So, there are 100 senators and 435 representatives. Assuming that ALL of them have an open slot for their slates, that will be 535 appointments given. These 535 +/- are MANDATORY. The academy must give these; assuming there is a qualified individual on the slates. After these; there's a MAXIMUM of 100 presidentials. The academy chooses these, and they don't have to take all 100. Add in the other slates, and you're looking at about 650 +/- appointments. That leaves about 550 +/- appointments to come out of the national pool.

As Flieger said, the majority of THESE are coming in March-April. Only a few days ago, some of our senators were notified of their Nominee's appointment. So; until these are COMPLETED; because they are mandatory; the national pool isn't really looked at much. The academies have federal laws that restrict how many cadets can be at the academy and how many can graduate. That's why it's a slow process. They can't just let in a random amount, and worry about it later. They already have to go through hoops and waivers when not as many cadets drop out before graduation and TOO MANY are going to get commissioned. They have to work hard trying to get the numbers right.

So no, the list of appointments so far isn't BIG. It's probably about half. About where it should be. As Steve said, the big surge will be in the next 3-5 weeks.

Does that mean most of the MOC slates have been resolved? Does it affect the probability of getting an appointment if the candidate already has an appointment offer from another service academy?

Do MOCs usually notify candidates from their slate if they have not been selected? I'm completely in the dark right now as only one person from Missouri has posted an appointment on the forums but it was senatorial.

I was wondering the same thing about Missouri. My DS is in the same district as the one posted, but he has the congressional nomination.

MO 4, Hartzler, typically calls her appointees, if she can reach them.

Last year she called DD on a Friday.

Thanks! I've been on her website recently, but it looks like she hasn't posted her nomination list for a couple of years.

My DS was offered a Falcon Scholarship the first week of May last year, so we know what it's like to wait! Once we realized what a Falcon Scholarship was, we were thrilled, and now that he is over 6 months through Prep School, he was notified last week that he is an Appointee and has accepted. Don't despair if you are offered a Falcon Scholarship. It has been the best prep year for our DS that he could have hoped for and he now feels much more prepared to enter the class of 2021 in June.

If given a choice, I would prefer my DS spend a year at prep school. I just feel it would benefit him tremendously. But of course, an offer of any kind would be amazing!!

If we had known what a Falcon Scholarship was (we always skipped over that in the forums as we didn't think it applied to our DS), that would have been our hope, too.
