Army ROTC offers

just a hunch... also try

train2lead@usaac.army.mil

for US Army Accessions Command

Oops! That's the one that I emailed and meant to type.

dunninla: My letter was dated January 30th, the "4 days ago" was referring to the email I sent. Sorry for the confusion!

If I don't get a reply from the Duke ROO and train2lead email address after about a week or two, would it be appropriate to call the PMS at Duke and explain my situation?

Also, I'm assuming that I shouldn't respond to my scholarship offer until I speak with them, correct?

I would call the ROO at Duke Now not later. Two weeks will be very close to the date you will need to accept/decline your scholarship.

I agree, call Duke now. It will be seen as proactive and being in control over your career (college and ROTC).

Yes, call the ROTC office, and ask for the PMS... then the ROO, and then ask for any live human... but start at the top. If I were a PMS, I would want to know that a scholarship Awardee to my school could use help with Admissions.

FYI --Train2lead@usaac.army.mil email address is being forwarded and responded to within hours. Son just accepted AROTC scholarship to Xavier University via email and received response several hours later. Typical process time was indicated to be 7-10 days.

Okay, so I've accepted the offer they sent me for a four year scholarship. Sent that in maybe last week. Got my DoDMERB decision back Saturday saying I was qualified.

For the past few months we have been receiving a letter that says "You have indicated that you have earned college credit..." and it talks about how I need to send in a transcript from the college I received credit from. (I take classes at a local college during my high schooling). So we have done this maybe four times. After the first three times we figured out that the transcript we were sending had no indicator of what it was, it didn't say a college name or anything.

So we requested an official transcript be sent directly from the college, as opposed to us faxing it ourselves. We did this a few weeks ago and lo and behold we received ANOTHER letter yesterday saying "blah, blah, blah... these administrative issues must be resolved." Basically saying I needed to send in my transcript again. And at the beginning of the letter it says "We have received your application and have reviewed it and we have found the following issues need to be resolved."

Which is funny because of course they've received my application. I got awarded a scholarship! Ha! I emailed the contact at CC, and she explained that it wasn't anything to worry about if I had faxed it in. But she was very foggy in her clarification if she had received my transcript. This was after the first time we received the letter, so now we have sent it in quite a few more times. Should this be something I have to worry about or what? Who should I contact if it becomes a problem? No one else has contacted me about this except with those letters I've received, and it's always the same letter, but with a new date sent.

If you have an offer that you have accepted it's time to switch gears and start talking to the ROO at you gaining ROTC Battalion. They are now going to have a vested interest in making sure you are able to contract next fall.

Question about school change request

Our son received an offer from the second board, but was not offered his first choice (which is out of state). He is much more interested in his top choice, and has spoken with the BN there - they are recommending SMP.

We have spoken to others that have recommended requesting a school change - as well as possibly requesting a 3 year advanced designation at the out of state school instead of the 4 year.

He's reached the point where he needs to send in his response - the liklihood of him actually attending either of the schools he was offered is very low. If we request the 3yr and change (although the BN has also indicated they don't think their BDE will accept 3 year for out of state either) - should he accept the 4year (even though he won't likely actually attend either of the schools), or decline it along with the change request?

If you decline, your file is closed. You cannot decline and then request a change of school.

Accept (you incur zero obligation), and request a change. You should know by May whether your change of school is approved. About 5% chance if you ask me, but that's not 0% so what does it hurt to ask? In May you consider SMP, or your other options.

Fortunately, the "train2lead@usaac.army.mil" e-mail did get back to me, but they recommended that I get in contact with the Duke ROTC detachment regarding my request to transfer my scholarship. It has been 12 days since I've emailed the ROO at Duke and 5 days since I've left a voicemail for the PMS and I haven't heard back from either of them.

I want to leave the best impression, so I'm not quite sure what to do now... I have until the 29th to figure something out.

The lack of response may be a bad sign or they are just busy. If this is something you want don't be afraid to keep calling until you get the ROO on the phone. Don't worry about making a bad impression, persistence is a sign of commitment.

Jcleppe is right in your situation you are not calling or emailing them over small issues, such as calling constantly to know what they supply and when you will get it. You are calling about a major factor in your life.

Part of being an officer is taking responsibility of your own career. You are showing that now.

Keep calling. We found it is difficult to get hold of these folks at DS's school. Besides their military duties with the unit they are all working on graduate degrees. Some may even be on detached duty. We got an email reply from the Freshman Naval advisor for DS's unit from Afghanistan once over the summer as he was stationed there for those 2 months. Try every hone number and try them during the day. I would bet 0800 - 0900 might be the best time as PT is done but its still early in the day before people get wrapped up in other things.

The ROTC unit is going to have a Staff, probably at least one civilian to answer the phone and do HR stuff, and probably another as well, depending on size.

Call the Battalion, and keep calling until you connect live with a human. When you get the human, explain your issue and ask how/when you can get in touch with the PMS and ROO. At this late date you need to have the Battalion phone number on your speed dial, to call throughout the day.

There are about ten people listed on the above linked page... just start asking for each one until you find one that is in.

or:

- the email didn't actually reach them (bad email)
- they don't read their emails
- PMS or ROO told a subordinate to reply to you and they didn't
- they are out sick
- they are out on unplanned temporary assignment
- they suck at responding
- they lack courtesy.
- something else.

Until you reach a live human you will have no idea why you aren't getting a response.

Are you sure you want to join a program that won't return your calls or emails ?

Marist College ROTC Nailed It

Excellent response, Marist. Even if the person you are trying to reach is unavailable there should be at least some sort of courtesy reply. The lack of response says something about the unit. My daughter only had a few weeks over the Christmas break to decide on whether to take an AFROTC Type 7 or convert it to a 3-year Type 2 and officers from both of the units she was interested in contacted her for a discussion even though they were on vacation. (It spoke volumes about both of these units and leaders.)
