AROTC Board 2

Ok, Mom79Texas I can give you what you are asking for. I live right outside Fort Knox where Cadet Command is located and have several friends that work there and sit on the boards. They have active duty and civilian personnel that go over every application. Every year there are individuals with a 19 ACT score that get awarded a scholarship. There are several factors for this and this is how they get the OML list (Order of Merit List by points). It is based on academic, leadership, PMS interview (interview the a Professor of Military Science), Essay, letters of recommendation, volunteering, etc. that they use for total points on an application. So if you have young men and women who are interested but struggle with academics inform them that it is only a small part of the point system used for the OML and they can still get the scholarship if they are active with school activities and their community. Don't take the advice the other individuals give you as a negative most questions here are answered with more information than requested due to this community wanting to be as helpful as possible and from other posts that they have read.

You're reading into what I meant by story incorrectly. But I simply don't care anymore. I thought we were free to ask questions on here, guess not!

You can ask all the questions you want, I believe those that responded did so in an attempt to answer your question. I'll try again.

Over the last couple years the lowest ACT score I've seen on this board from an applicant that received a scholarship was 23, but this board is just a very small percentage of the number of applicants each year. There are over 10,000 applicants that start the process and Cadet Command awards nearly 2200 scholarships each year. There are just a small number of those winners that are on this board so it's impossible to know from such a small sampling what the lowest scores were. On top of that you would need to know what the rest of their application looked like to get a full picture of why they received a scholarship.

One thing to note that you can pass on to your students is that a 24 ACT or 1100 SAT score is needed to receive the maximum number of points on the academic portion of the interview sheet, this mattes because the interview score figures prominent in the process.

I believe a post above mentioned that they have seen a score as low as 19, but again it is all dependent on the whole of the application. I hope this has better answered your question.

I know that the waiting is difficult when you have a daughter in this process, other then the prior information you posted it is understandable that you have questions regarding the ACT score and how it figures into the equation. Hopefully the results will be out soon. Best of luck to your daughter.

WAIT ACTUALLY?? I'D BE SUCH A GOOD MOD!!!

I was actually going to start a thread to rally support for me to become a mod (as a joke) but hey! this works too!

First things first, let’s see where you land, you have important things to do in the coming years. “Junior Mod” is non-existent, of course, at the moment, but I for one appreciate you reminding people to self-correct before forum rules were seriously violated.
