Calling All Football Fans

.......
I still have hope for Army against Navy this year.
Especially if we can figure out some way to shorten the game clock.

Me too. I think Army takes Navy this year. As for the game clock, the 3 D1 Academies and Georgia Tech have the fastest game clocks in the Nation. "RUN THE BALL" and the clock keeps going. Can't think of any other way. Other than having QB-1 watch the play clock and snap with 1-2 seconds left each play. I saw a coach do that once. It made the game SEEM long, but it was very fast in real time. Plus, it really bored the other team and made them make quite a few mistakes. A quick no-huddle offense isn't the only way to get the other team off guard. Have your plays developed and stand at the line and wait 20 seconds. Just like you would with 2 minutes left and killing the clock. You can definitely get inside the other team's head. Just make sure your front line doesn't get stupid and jump for a false start.

Service Academy games/rivalries are amongst the fiercest. I truly believe anything can happen regardless of what is written on paper.

Last year was a good example. Though Army didn't win against AF, they got off to a great lead and I think that was mostly unexpected. AF had a huge lead against Navy with minutes remaining (and a win looked really good for AF), yet Navy came back and lost in overtime with a blocked PAT. ANYTHING can happen in these games. Army/Navy was a close game and it will be a very competitive game this year.

2004 Emerald Bowl - Navy vs. New Mexico
But that game is indeed in the record books, because of a Navy drive that could have been measured by an hourglass: a 26-play, 14 minute-26 second epic that took just over 32 minutes in real time. It was college football's most time-consuming drive ever, and it didn't even produce a touchdown—on the drive's last play, Navy kicked a field goal to go up by 15. The drive started with 1:41 left in the third quarter with Navy leading 31-19 and having just thwarted a New Mexico touchdown plunge by inches. When the drive was over, just 2:15 was left in the game, and the Lobos' fate was all but sealed.

Also, I think back in 2004 the game clock only started when the ball was snapped (after a first down was made), so the drive could have been very well a lot longer in today's standards.

Yea; there are 3 games each year that i will NEVER BET ON in vegas.

1. BYU vs Utah (Holy War)
2. Wyoming vs CSU (Border War)
3. AFA vs Army vs Navy (Mother of all Wars)

In these games, there is no "Suppose To". The 0-11 team can beat the 11-0 team without even thinking about.

4. Auburn v Alabama ('there are no words to describe' war)

  • Navy (1-3) is embarrassed, shutout at Homecoming losing to San Jose State 12-0
  • Army (0-4) loses big to Stony Brook 23-3.
  • Air Force (2-2) doubles up Colorado State 42-21.
  • Kings Point (3-2) wins their Homecoming game against RPI 34-31
  • Coast Guard (2-2) thrashes Fitchburg State at Homecoming 59-0.
CGA offense is #5 in the nation in scoring (averaging 42 ppg) and their QB is #4 in the nation in passing.

It wasn't homecoming but it was still embarassing. First shutout since 2006 and the fewest total yards since they established the triple option offense ten years ago.

On the plus side, at the Army/Navy game this year one of the teams will actually get a win! (Not seeing a lot of those this season for either team).

Did want to do a shout-out for CBS-S for their nice coverage of both the Army & Navy Alma Mater at the end of each game this weekend - wish other stations would follow suit!

Nice to see all 5 academy teams (plus SUNY and Mass Maritime) in this article:

Service Academy Update: Air Force Defeats Colorado State, Navy and Army Lose

And the Maritime Academy's are the lost and forgotten cousins who also graduate many commissioned officers.:thumb: Great that they recognized them for a change.

"B-2 Spirit"?

"F-22 Raptor"?

Wow, USAFA. Worst uniforms ever.

Maybe not the worst ones ever, but I was unimpressed by them, also.

Worse than the uniforms was an offense that looked like it had not gotten enough sleep last night and failed in many ways.

Navy wins 28-21 in OT.

Glad to see AF lost because they played poorly rather than because Navy played well.

Evidently you can't fumble on 3 consecutive possessions and miss two field goals and still expect to win the game. Who would have thought?

Great. Another one. I’m sure the field goal kicker did not miss everything during warmups. However, when there is another team on the field, his record is abysmal. 1-6. I am also positive that during warmups, the offense, when they were running play drills, were not continually fumbling. My conclusion is that both coaching and the presence of the other team on the field and their aggressiveness had something to do with AF’s failures. Good defenses cause fumbles. Good defenses cause field goal kickers to miss.

I was curious with two of the coaching decisions in the 4th quarter:

(1) On AF's last touchdown, why wasn't the decision made to go for a 2pt conversion? The worst case is if you don't convert, it is still a 7point game. Getting the conversion would have made it a 2 possession game.

(2) Why did Navy not attempt to go down the field with ~90 secs left in the game and attempt a field goal. It looked to me as if they were just trying to run the clock down and waste an opportunity.

Video: The best moment of the college football weekend

South Carolina beat Georgia 35-7 on Saturday night, but it was far and away the second most memorable event to take place at Williams-Brice Stadium.

The Faile family of Kershaw, S.C., had been chosen as the Military Family of the Game, which not only honored them on the field but also gave them a message from father-husband Sgt. 1st class Scott Faile on the video board. Though there was a surprise at the end of the sergeant's message.

This season, there won't be many moments cooler than this.
