Class '2026 Plebe Parents Weekend

Today’s the day. I am sure a lot of parents who never thought they would so happy to see 1200 young men and women do push ups. And a lot of Plebes excited for a little R&R! Congrats on making it to this milestone! Enjoy the weekend.

And it isn’t over yet!
Youngster DS is looking forward to Thursday reform! He is anxiously awaiting word on what activities are planned as he is new company so does not know the “traditions” of Hello night.

Hope everyone had a good visit with their plebes over the weekend, even with all of the hiccups at the beginning for Oscar company (my son's company was on quarantine due to a case of whooping cough, so we had to sign a waiver to take him off campus on Friday, and we met them on Ingram field instead of the T-Court). Heard only good things from our dude about his company-mates. Sounds as if he is making great friends and lifelong bonds already.

And, as I expected, it also sounds like our dude is one of the detailer "favorites" to ...... uh ...... assist ...... in his journey! He had quite a few stories about things they throw his way to help him with his military bearing and smartalic-ness. From bearing bears to detailers hiding out in his shower to bust them after lights out (4 of them at one time!) to having to write, and re-write, a poem about strings on shorts.

He did say that some of his classmates said to him that he made the summer more enjoyable and easier to get through. That's one of his best traits. He is a ham and jokester, but he will always have your back and help in whatever way possible.

Only downside for the weekend? He spent the bulk of his time with his girlfriend while at home, and so his mom didn't get to spend as much time with him as we would have liked. We're going to have to set a few more limits on time that his girlfriend can come over when he comes home for liberty. Or, she can just drive down to visit him in Annapolis when he doesn't come home on the weekends. We said she could come over the whole time, but it was Plebe PARENTS Weekend, not Plebe Girlfriend Weekend.
😛

Little bit different as he was a college re-applicant, so it is a college relationship, and she is at school only 45 minutes away from the Academy. (And we are 40 minutes away).

Fair point. That said, people change at USNA and most relationships don't survive that change.

Trying to limit the GF time ain't gonna work and could backfire. If the relationship is strong / meant to be, you can't (and really don't want to) stand in the way. If it isn't strong, it won't survive 4 years on the Severn.

Agreed. His mom and I are continue to guess when/if they are going to make it. We'll how this semester goes!

An operational risk note. As a plebe, he cannot ride in her car with GF unless he is on leave.
Friendly edit ... "is not supposed to" or "is prohibited from" riding in GF car as a Plebe.

I'm certainly not encouraging anyone to break rules (I was pretty much a goody goody the whole time), but when it comes to relationships, all bets are off. All I can say is that if you do the crime --- be prepared to do the time. Restriction is not fun, particularly as a Plebe.

Plenty of stories of those that tried...and get caught. Word to the wise, don't think that you are smart or more clever than those that went before you....

Well said. That’s why I led with “operational risk.” Learning to do those assessments before setting out to break rules is an essential skill.
