Yes you can accept it and still hold out for the SA. Appointment. Personally, I can't think of a downside, perhaps someone else can shed light on that.
Correct. You can walk away from the AFROTC if you are appointed to the USAFA.I believe you can accept the scholarship, then if you get accepted to the Academy you can get out of the scholarship.
It is true. There is no downside. Accept the AFROTC scholarship by whatever deadline is required, and you can walk away from the AFROTC if/when you are appointed to the USAFA.Someone else please verify this, but if it is true there is no down side to accepting the scholarship.

The Army & Navy ROTC and SA programs both allow you to accept your ROTC scholarship and walk away from it if you are appointed to either of their SAs. Just make sure you adhere to the deadlines for accepting each. Good Luck!Right, so it appears this works for AFROTC, is this advice still good with Army ROTC, Don'y want to see myself locked into something here.
Wow, a lot of people accepted to Tech here. I'm in the exact same boat. I received early admission to Tech and just received my AFROTC scholarship. Still waiting though... The wait is unbearable.I am in the same boat as everyone else in here...still wating for that BFE. But, I have been accepted to Georgia Tech and received an AFROTC scholarship, so my plan B is not looking too bad.
I am from Maryland fyi.
Hey, isn't it nice to know you are not alone. Just look at the stats for some of the people waiting - it's not because you are not a good candidate, it's just a very tough year. If it is any consolation, it appears that we are about 2.5 weeks from when we should be hearing back. In the meantime, we can at least celebrate what certainty we have in our college and ROTC acceptances. The wait really is tough. Especially since the expected arival of the BFE has been constantly pushed back.

I actually had a dream last night that DS received a letter telling him he had received an appointment. Funny though, it was not a BFE just a letter. It did make me smile though when I woke up. Then I realized it was just a dream and that dreaded knot came back to my stomach!
The waiting is just horrible.....
Sorry the title is supposed to say "continues"....
That's right.....but the VP noms come from the VP and are attached to a person. No one is qualified and "in the running" without a nom attached to their name. That includes the VP noms....they are awarded to "real applicants" and then submitted to the AFA. Again, I could be wrong but I think I'm right on this one! It can be confusing....we are a non-military family and DS is our first SA applicant so learning curve has been steep! This forum has been most helpful. And as I always like to say, if you are a candidate reading this, I hope you get the BFE!
The VP noms aren't attached to a person by the actual VP. The candidates apply for a VP nom thru the VP, but the applications actually go directly to the individual Academies, and they select who will receive a VP nom. Many times the VP nom is used for someone who may live out of the country, and therefor doesn't really have a MOC, or there may be some very highly qualified candidates, that for whatever reason didn't receive a MOC nom for that particular Academy(say if the MOC only gives out one nom per individual, and they have applied to multiple academies) so the Academy awards them a VP nom, as long as they applied for it. This is why the Academies stress to apply to every nom source you are eliglibe for. It seems like the VP noms are some of the last to be awarded because the academies wait to put the puzzle together and see how to best utilize the VP nom to help make up the strongest class.
