Class of 2016-Mailbox Stalkers Club

Very Cool!

Big breaking news...http://www.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123295660

Congratulations and thank you, Lt Gen Wolfenbarger for your past years of service and continuing with your commitment to serve this great country.

This was particularly interesting:
Wolfenbarger, a native of Beavercreek, Ohio, was commissioned as a second lieutenant in 1980 after graduating in the first class with female cadets at the Air Force Academy.

Very cool, and a great accomplishment! The article also said she had a graduate degree from MIT. Thanks for sharing the news, usafa2012mom!

Thoughts

Has anyone noticed that even after notification of an appointment there still appears to be apprehension? My DS had convinced himself that an appointment was not in the works because he has waited so long, and NOW I think that he is having to reintroduce himself to the fact that USAF is a reality. We are just trying to let it sink in and taking it a day at a time. His older brother is a graduate of USMA and so he is extremely familiar with the sacrifices of this life. Don't get me wrong--older DS absolutely loves USMA and loves the military life. He said (older son) that he hated it while he was there, but he made the most incredible friends and got the most incredible education and now he LOVES the place. Go figure. I think everything about this whole process is a "God thing" and we just have to be patient and pray a lot.

Anyone receive any info today?

Doubt we'll see anything today since most MOCs who want to will have contacted candidates, and BFEs were mailed today.

I suspect come noon tomorrow we'll start seeing some action that will last until Saturday.

Spring Break

Spring Break is next week. So to keep myself from stalking the mailbox, I'm going to volunteer at my mom's office at Fort Jackson. :smile:

One of the college specialist's/guidance counselor's son is a C4C and he came to visit today. It was very surreal. Pretty cool though because he got his appointment around this time last year, so he knew how crazy/disordered I was feeling about the entire admissions process.

I think that's one of the cool things about the SAs. I mean yeah, it's beyond amazing to meet a SA graduate/alumni (<--alumni?) but it's different when you actually meet cadets, appointees and the rest of us who are still waiting for a response because you can actualy relate with the person much better than someone like an alumni.

(if that makes sense at all...)

The majority of appointments are going out this week but it will go out through mid April.

This was posted on the Air Force Academy Admissions Facebook page about an hour ago!:thumb:

No news today. SMNE...BFE or TWE.....SPNC.....

In the words of Keith Urban......We live to love another day....watch me now....hey!

So does the fact that:
1) I have not received an MOC Call, or a BFE
2)Another applicant from my district (that submitted her application before me)has already received an MOC call
3) My portal still says "candidate"
...mean that I will not be getting an appointment?
From what people are saying, I am gathering that all the MOCs have been notified, and call if they want to. My MOC already called some people, but not including me. It sounds like BFEs will only be going out to people that already received calls (if their MOC calls at all, which mine does, apparently).
So is that it for me?

Since none of us really know what happens, I'm going to guess and say that another wave will most likely go out. So until you've received a TWE or your portal has changed, I say keep hoping! :)

I find it funny how many kids on the Admissions FB page lack resourcefulness. They post their excellent GPA, leadership experience and other outstanding credentials and then ask how to apply. Really? Even a simple google search would get you to the admissions page and from there it's just a few clicks until the PCQ.

I probably shouldn't rip on 'em... it just surprises me.

Especially in our day and age.

haley,

1. Traditionally from yrs past there is only about 10% of appointees on this site.
~~~ It would be wrong to assume that others from MI have yet to receive an appointment. I do not want to burst the bubble, but unless you know that everyone on your MOC slates have not received an appointment, it would be wrong to assume they go state by state.
2. Candidates are separated not only into regions, but alphabetically. Your RD at the AFA cannot tell you anything, because they only handled candidates from certain alphabetical groups. You should not assume they know the entire group. Regions are not tiny, that would be thousands of kids.
3. You may be correct about MI, but there is a caveat.
~~~ No charge to an MOC can come out until everyone on the slate has a WCS. If MI MOC's duplicate noms (i.e. Cong/Sen) the reason your state has not come out yet may be due to the fact that a candidate waited to the very last second to submit their CFA.
~ The AFA will wait to start moving the list because their WCS can impact everyone else. It may mean that they have 4 noms (Pres, 3 MOCs), and depending on who they charge that appointment to it will trickle down to the next and the next.

The AFA, unless this year is different, does not go state by state. Theoretically it would be too difficult because you have Presidential, ROTC and Supe. They go slate by slate. If all 10 have a WCS the MOC can be charged.

I understand that not many of us are on the site, however I do find it odd that only a little over half the states are represented, and with everyone presenting conflicting information I feel it'd be inaccurate to say the bulk of appointments went out last week, even if they don't go state by state. That's all I was saying. However I wouldn't have any idea, but I feel like it makes you go crazier to speculate, haha. I'm just waiting (im)patiently, hoping for the best, and planning for the worst.

I'm trying to be patient and wait, but inside I'm very anxious. My heartbeat goes up every time I go to the mailbox. I keep checking my status page, but I've read that it gets updated last.

There's your answer. The majority went out, and very few will receive some later on as some people choose not to accept their appointments.

I only just started mailbox stalking this week, because it's that last big wave of appointments. I know the feeling now. :frown:

So my son came to say good night and saw me on the forum, and he said, "Are you still on that forum?! You know I got in, right?" Both of us laughed. I guess I'm a USAFA forum addict, although I do check USMA too since a friend's son is waiting to hear. I guess I just want to know that everyone got their appointment and is happy.

It's pretty amazing to me that even though we're from all over the US, we have so much in common, and our kids are so much alike.

Isn't that the truth? I post more now that the pressure is off, and I log in to see whether any of the "regulars" have heard yet. I guess we become invested in each other...Good luck everyone as I imagine the next few days will be stalked heavily!

SPSU: Stalked portal saw update !!!!!!!

:thumb:
This morning DS's portal changed. It says, "Congrats, you've been offered an appointment" and also has a link to a letter of congrats from the Director of Admissions!

In addition, an email arrived that says "You have an offer of an appointment . . .from USAFA." It's a DO NOT REPLY email with a link to DS's portal.

Something else for you guys to stalk! I hope all of your dreams come true!

Saw your post early this morning (but didn't have time to reply) but told DS to go check his portal.
And, there it was. WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for the heads up.

DS hasn't been looking at the portal lately, just figured it wouldn't update until after the BFE arrived. He told me yesterday, that he really wanted to get his hands on the BFE so it would feel real. Seeing the portal this morning certainly did make it feel more real for him (and me). He was grinning from ear to ear as he left for school. :shake:

Oh, and the letter states "You have until April 15, 2012 to notify Admissions of your decision."

Again, congratulations to all those receiving their appointments.
And, we are still praying for anyone waiting to hear. :angel:

Blessings,
