Class of 2016-Mailbox Stalkers Club

How did you do that math? It comes out to 11% If you look at it though it should always be around a 10percent chance because their are 10 MOC noms and only one appointment offered per 10. Still I understand your point 10% puts it up their with schools like harvard who have a 8 or 9% rate. Everyone keep your head up there are always different roads to the same destination.

Forgot to move the decimal. 1040/12000 = 0.08666666. Sorry about that.

I think that 1050/12000 = 0.0875 = 8.75%

Not that that matters, the point is well taken, it is amazing how 12K applicants get whittled down by Nominations, PFT, and DoDMERB to the final 2,500 or so qualified applicants and from that pool the appointments are made.

SPNU. No TWE in the mail today either. Not giving up until I get it!

I'm so proud of you LFry94!!!!!

I am very impressed with your determination, your great "can do" attitude as well as your willingness to show your support to others on this forum. I would be proud to know that you would be working, studying and training beside my son at the Academy. I'm pulling for you, saying prayers and wishing you much luck. I'm positive that you will be successful in whichever path opens up for you.

Blessings to you and thank you for being such an active part of this forum.

+1 here regarding how nc came up with 8.7%

Let's not turn this into a peeing contest. Posters and lurkers hearts are breaking right now.

It is time to prove why the AF is "ABOVE ALL". We are because when someone gets knocked down, we circle around them, and remind them that they are "ABOVE ALL". No flaming, no offense to Army, Navy, CG, and MM, just acknowledging AF.

Does it really matter if it is between 8 or 11%? I don't think so, and I hope you all agree.

What we should be doing is telling these kids that to be seen from a national perspective that you are someone to be reckon with in this world. You have the WHOLE package.

Your life does not end today, it is just beginning. Your life experience will impact you from a leadership perspective, i.e. motivator. AF is not just about academics, it is about leading.

As hard as that TWE is to read, it will change you forever, and it will be a factor in how you will lead/motivate.

It isn't the kiss of death. Use it the right way and it is going to be an asset in your future.

I.E.
Flieger --- Flier that went Prep and flew both fighters and heavies. Became an ALO, and a source you look to for guidance.
Gen. Gould --- AFA Supe. AFA Prep school 1972. He didn't get direct admit, but he is now a 3 star in the AF.

Both of them decades ago, prior to the internet, got a TWE from the AFA as a HS sr. Look at them now!

So proud of all of you that have been committed in this process.

I am very proud of all the young men and women who have dedicated their young lives to becoming candidates in the appointment process.

It speaks volumes about who you are as individuals. YOU ARE ALL WINNERS !!!!!!!!!!!!!

:groupwave::groupwave::groupwave::groupwave:

You deserve a BIG CONGRATULATIONS and BEST WISHES in your futures, whether it is at USAFA, another SA or another college or university.

You are all bound for success and always know that.

Blessings to you all.

Hey Ya'll

Hey everybody!

I don't post on the forum much, but I just wanted to let you all know that I haven't heard anything from USAFA yet (even though I live 5 mins from the Academy)!

My friend however, who lives near as well, received a TWE on the 23rd of March, so as you can imagine TWEs and BFEs just arrive at different times for everyone!

Wishing good luck to you all in whatever you do! If I don't get an appointment then AFROTC will be on my agenda for the coming year.

I'll update my status by the end of this week for sure, for hopefully good news may or may not arrive!

Thanks!

Typically Wednesday. Unless this yr is different from yrs past, they do not update daily. There are people who input the info daily, but it the info is placed in a holding pattern, and than the AFA opens the results all at one time.

AFrpaso, it isn't necessarily down to sync info regarding apptmts., it may be down to sync up AFA to the AF system.

This was a topic yrs ago on this site because DoDMERB also did this, and many ROTC cadets found out they got a scholarship after the "re-syncing". It changed!

IMPHO, it is re-syncing for internal purposes, nothing more and nothing less.

Again look at the apptmt thread, there is a commonality. 3/22, 3/29 are the bulk of apptmts. Tomorrow is 4/4, letters go out, and 4/5 would be the date...7 days after 3/29.

I am not trying to be harsh. I am trying to help people from stalking/fearing their mailbox.

Board ONLY meets on Monday, results processed on Tuesday, appointments on Wed, released.

The idea that Sat., Sunday, Monday the AFA updates is hurting posters and lurkers, especially since the AFA works M-F.

Thank you for your words of wisdom and encouragement through this process. It has been a long and emotional ride watching and waiting along side DS. I'm proud of him and everyone who applied and either got accepted or not. It's not the end for DS. It's only the beginning.

Same as LFry here in CT, I haven't heard anything. No TWE's today or yesterday, either.
No news may not be good news, but at least it's not painful.
We'll have to see where this take me... I really have no idea if I am on track for an appointment or not :/

Hi folks!

I haven't been on for a couple of days because I've been giving my son some time to think about an issue that he approached me about on Sunday.

In a nutshell, he no longer wants to attend the Academy... I don't know if he'll be in this last wave (no change with our MOC slots) or receive a Falcon or Preppie offer or whatever, however, it really doesn't matter. He had the courage to come and just tell me straight out that he would rather go to Auburn and commission through ROTC.

He stated he had made his decision after visiting Norwich and seeing how the 1st Years there lived and according to him, after the severe emotional stress of the last 2 years, he "just doesn't want to live like that". He believes that he could meet the challenges of Academy life, and I believe him, but he wants to have a more traditional college experience and more importantly, try to put some distance between the stress of my Wife's medical problems and having to launch into yet another very stressful situation...

I can't say I blame him, the last two years really have been something approaching Purgatory and beyond - I know he's been very quiet since he went to Norwich and I had an inkling that this was what he was thinking, but I let him have some space and I'm proud that he came forward with a well considered and rational decision...

It's been a real pleasure to have spent time with you over this last year and I wish each and every one of you a BFE, success, health , and happiness!!!

Best Regards

A different perspective...Most if not all of you USAFA candidates here are so outstanding that you haven't faced much "failure." Perhaps not enough to understand the difference between "failure" and "disappointment." You are Eagle Scouts, Class and Club presidents, entrepreneurs, very successful people in all that you have attempted. And if you didn't succeed at something, what did you do? You tried even harder, you wouldn't accept being less than the very best at what you do. You have tried your best here too, the difference here is that there is a whole year before you can hear whether applying again and improving even more will get you an appointment (if that's what you've decided to do). Yes, you may have the largest disappointment in your life at this point, but that's all that it is, disappointment. Your life is still WAY out in front of you. Make your goal succeeding in your life. Get used to disappointment, even failure, because you will face both. What's important is that you know the difference. I think it was Thomas Edison that when asked about the thousands of times that he failed at making a light bulb, he said that he learned thousands of times how NOT to do it. So, the message in that is to take what you can from this disappointment but know that you will succeed. You are already a success! Personally it angers me to think that young men and women of your caliber would hang your head and call yourselves failures! You should be mature enough to know better. No person who has made it this far in the process has failed, that's not an opinion, it's a FACT! And if you look within yourself, you know. Lies you tell to yourself, or that other people tell you can talk all day, the truth just smiles  .

Sorry so long. I just feel very passionate about this issue, as many may have gathered from my previous posts.:thumb:

I'm so happy he is getting to do what his heart wants! Brings me warm fuzzies! (Not a word, but oh well)

Nothing in today's mail or portal, nor did I expect there to do. It really does come in cycles (when the forums start lighting up with notifications, that's when it's the worst for me). I have been telling DS & myself "whatever will be, will be" I just wish I could embrace it as DS has. It's the logical response, but unfortunately I wear my heart on my sleeve and I am pretty much an open book. Besides, patience was not something I got extra doses of.

Have a great day!

Romad,

Our DS called the ball too. Back in 08, actually he did in Feb. he decided to go ROTC.

It takes a lot for them to make that decision at such a young age. Our DS's decision was identical to yours. He decided at this point in his life he still wanted to be a college kid. He was an AF dep. and never saw the real world. He knew he wanted 20, but he had issues coming to terms with just being a college ROTC student compared to the AFA cadet.

We respected that. Honestly, we were relieved. Love our DS, but engineering wasn't his thing, good at it academically (720 M- 1 sitting, 34 ACT - 1 sitting), but he never wanted to study that field.

He went AFROTC scholarship, and and in 53 days he will be commissioned a 2nd Lt. in the USAF with a UPT slot, majoring in govt and politics.

IN NO SHAPE OR FORM AM I SAYING GO ROTC OVER AFA. I am saying that as TWE's come down the pike, and as other posters decide to take a different route; dreams come true.

For some the ultimate is AFA, for others it is AF. Neither is right, neither is wrong. Once AD nobody gives a crap! Just like once at AFA nobody cares who your appointment was charged to, or AFROTC whether you are on scholarship.

The only thing that matters is getting the job done!

I'm sorry, but you can't go. Just kidding. You have been a light throughout your son's journey. Thanks for sharing your sense of humor. It is greatly appreciated. Best wishes to your DS. It sounds like he has a good head on his shoulders.
