Sweet...my DS has been asking to order his R-day boots since 3rd Grade. To all CC's who will be ordering boots (when the "official" communication comes out), make sure to get boots that FIT. Nothing worse than boots that are too loose or too tight to ruin your day (and your feet).

Hate to be THAT GUY, but back in my day, we had the black leather GI boots issued that were incredibly stiff at first. How many remember all the lengths that were gone to in the attempt to soften the leather to make them wearable? I do recall wearing them in the shower and then wearing them all day to "break them in". In contrast, these new options look like bedroom slippers!

Each year there is a different boot letter. WAIT FOR YOUR CLASS OF 2024 Boot letter before buying any shoes or boots for school. You have plenty of time.

Congratulations to all appointed CCs! You’d want to get your Bates ASAP....they run out in sizes closer to July. Plus you’d want to have the extra time in case you need to exchange sizes and to break them in before A day.

Newby question, do you have to get the Bates low quarters from the USMA store or can you get them from Bates or Amazon? I wore Bates low quarters for 10 years and they are something to get used to. I ordered the Garmont T8s in three sizes from Amazon to see which fit the best. If you know the about the Bates low quarters, please let me know. Thank You

I recall posts last year about this issue where it was a "challenge" (as in we have no problems, only challenges) to find a store with the required boots (maybe it was also size issues involved) either way, this is something I wouldn't sleep on. I would order these ASAP when the notification becomes available. Good luck to all.

You can get them anywhere that sells them. I’d also suggest waiting for this year’s boot memo.

Hey, I just wanted to point out something I found on the west point website. If anyone is wondering what boots/low quarters they can start breaking in, there is a link attached. I believe admissions will issue the boot letter sometime in the near future, so it might be better to wait on that. Anyways, congratulations to all my classmates! https://s3.amazonaws.com/usma-media/inline-images/military/directorate_of_cadet_activities/pdfs/PlebeShoeOrderForm.pdf
Specific model number highlighted on memo in red. Bates website does not list number in item description but if you search their website with model number it will direct you to the correct model.

Most cadets wear the Garmonts (T8 Bifida or NFS--T8's are recommended on the boot order form). Get a pair that fit your feet right. The memorandum is meant so you don't show up in a pair of boots that are bad for rucking. Cadre will not check and do not know the authorized boots themselves. I'm not encouraging you to go against the memo but there were plenty of New Cadets with varying boots and it does not matter at all. I wish I had gotten a brand that had fit my feet better to start as it caused me a lot of pain during CBT.

Low quarters do matter, however. Don't get shiny ones. You can't wear those until you're a Yuk. It really doesn't matter if you shine them ahead of time.

I was told that Nike's were a no-go. Idk if that's true.

We got the Garmont T8 in our son’s regular size and they fit perfect, those are very comfy no need for breaking in. The bates on the other hand are hard to size, they tend to run a bit big. We had a difficult time finding the right size, and apparently there was a shortage last year. Ended up getting the second pair from Amazon, first pair were big. If you start getting them now you’ll be ahead of most people.

The low quarters (Bates #968) can be ordered directly from the Bates Shoes website. They're $150 with free shipping, but you get 15% off if you're a veteran (came to $127, just a buck more than the Cadet store with shipping). Looks like they have every size known to man.
