Current Female CO 2024 - It's that time again! Ask me anything!

The fitness test is usually the day after R-Day, and it has absolutely NO bearing on your GPA for the academic year or any part of your time in Beast. According to the little I've heard from west point, it's sort of for you to gauge where you are in terms of army fitness. But someone please correct me if I'm wrong!

It’s used for run group placement, identify new cadets who need remedial training in whatever event they failed prior to the record PT test that is used for a grade at the end of the summer, and to verify that you are indeed capable of achieving close to the CFA scores you sent in

What do they test with your blood? Do they take a lot?
I genuinely can't really remember what they tested for, but they don't take an unreasonable amount I suppose. Something like 3 or 4 small vials. I think they're just screening for spreadable diseases, honestly.

I just received an appointment to USMA on Thursday, and wanted to ask how difficult BEAST is? I’m a little nervous if I’m being honest that I’ll fail out

Hello!

First and foremost, I want you to know that it's totally normal to have these fears - I had them too! Beast is hard - it's meant to be physically and mentally challenging, and it DEFINITELY is that. However, you will NOT fail out of beast unless you QUIT! Beast is a pass/fail kind of thing, and the only way that you can fail is by refusing to do something, or dropping out of West Point. You may have to make some events up in other summers if they're graduation requirements, but the likelihood of you "failing" out of Beast is slim to none!

Come in physically fit and ready to conquer the Beast and I think you'll surprise yourself :)

Thank you!! West Point’s been a dream, and up until this week, only that! Do you have any advice on preparing for it? Because I’m not going to quit, but I’m sure it’d be easier if I were to get in shape lol.

Can we have a letter of recommendation from a varsity coach? Or are we required to submit one from a PE teacher (I do not have one)?

This past summer my platoon did very little running, although I can't speak for other platoons and companies. That being said, run. Run a lot and do a lot of push-ups. But honestly, as long as you're in good overall shape when you arrive, you'll be fine. It'll be hard, but you'll be able to handle it.

How do I prepare for the CFA? I am still a while away from the CFA (aka I'm still too young to start my application), but I figure it's best to prepare early. I am already a runner, so I don't need to practice much more running, but I have issues with pull-ups.

Buy resistance bands of varying strength on amazon or any other retailer and do assisted pullups. Focus on PERFECT form, I would assume instructors in the military would be huge stricklers about form, perfect form will also allow you to fully use the correct muscle groups for pullups. Use each resistance band until you can easily do about 12-15 with perfect form then move onto the next band strength. If you already have a regular workout regimen, do this first on your upper body days. I did this for about half a year and went from 0 pullups to 8. (I was an overweight lineman in high school football and could barely support my own bodyweight for most of high school) Hope this helps and best of luck!
