Hello Everyone I am a Cadet at Det 085 Uc Berkeley and I have been a cadet for a year now. I’m a fit 18 year old and have never had any medical problems before and was performing well within my detachment. At the end of my first year as a AS100 before DodMerb exams for everyone I had a normal physical at kaiser where my doctor found a heart murmur. I went through a Echocardiogram and was diagnosed with Atrial Septal Defect a heart condition I was born with. Ive never had any symptoms or problems and I’m still currently physically active. My Doctors have given me the option of minimally invasive asd repair so we can fix it now before it causes problems in my late future. I told my cadre of my situation, and they have decided to extend my DodMerb to after my surgery. I was wondering if I will get DQ’d for this as ROTC is the most important thing in my life right now. Although I know this is a 100% DQ for pilot as my dream was to fly I still want to serve my country as my father did and his father. If anyone can help me or give me advice on the situation I would be very thankful.
