At one point there was a push to get rid of company watches.... they really don't do much, until the great CO leak in 2nd battalion. The company watch standers were credited with saving all of 2nd bat... not sure how they really detected the orderless, tasteless death gas.... but none the less your job as company duty midshipman is to save the day from stuff like that... not sure how... but yeah... go on tour and do stuff.

I always thought the purpose of standing those BOOW watches and others was to get used to standing watches at sea. . . . do they still do the dock watch (my personal favorite).

What are the list of accredited institutions? Also, if I do get out of the basic classes stated above, I still need to fill those slots with other classes to make up the credit hours lost?
12 is the minimum needed to be a full time student so as long as you have a minimum of 12 you just get additional space in your schedule. I believe the 12 hour minimum is set by the accrediting body and is standard across all. I only had 12 credits one quarter senior year, it felt like I was a part time student.

To get a mast or demerits in the first part of plebe year would take something serious like sneaking out or alcohol on campus. Restricting a plebe for first liberty is something that probably would never happen anymore.
Wow, how times have changed!

Anyone know when they will really start sending out a lot of appointments and rejections? I'm in that cross path with having other schools and scholarships(full ride) but KP is my number 1 choice. Just scared I won't be accepted and pass up another opportunity

If your turned in your app after Feb 1, then your probably scheduled for the board here in the next week or two. If you email Admissions@usmma.edu and ask for your specific person handling your application, give them a call because they know everything that is happening on that side and should give you strict dates.

Interesting, our watch officer said that that happened in 1st battalion.

Yes, plebes do gangway watch. 2/C does Bridge, 3/C does Northdock, not sure which waterfront watch 1/C does.

Apparently next tri the 1/C are getting off the watchbill and we're picking up the slack. Excited for that.

I would like to know basically, everything there is to know about the Fourth Class year that I can't find on the website.

Don't worry about it. Plebe year only stings for a minute, then you pass out, when you wake up you're headed to the park after recognition run.

Obviously they have changed the names of the watches. Dock watch was held in a little shack down on the docks. . .

I think the waterfront watches are the only ones that matter.... it is the one place where you're actually responsible for the security a hell of a lot of assets.

Still the case, except south dock which is what is in your picture has been condemned for quite some time. There are lots of leg sized holes in the wood. There is a news paper from the mid 2000's sitting in the shack atop south dock. There is a little shack at the gangway of the KP'r and one near Yocum.

Go tell your watch officer that he wasn't there and doesn't know. I watched the pandemonium that was the gas leak happen from my room when I was a plebe. At the time of the leak, Band, 3rd, 4th, and REG were all living over there in Cleveland, Rogers, Jones, and Barry. It all stemmed from some ventilation stuff on Zero Deck. Everyone on that side of Delano was moved to Ackerman for a few hours. (...I know first company moved over there this year)

Picking up the slack isn't really a big deal. Seniors that are waterfront officers stand WDO, that is the first class waterfront watch.

What? First Company isn't in Palmer? What an outrage. . . .Oh and that shot of the Dock Shack goes back to 1980, I believe. At least between 77 and 81. . .

I stood watch in that shack the night Hurricane Bob was supposed to hit in 91. It was so quiet and still it was eerie. It also was much ado about nothing as the storm bypassed us.

The best part of being in 1st company was living in Palmer hall.

I will never forget that eerie feeling at 4am!!! I was a waitress at the local "fishermen's" brekkie hangout on the Cape. The place was packed an hour before opening. Sorry to go off topic. What a memory! We got hit pretty hard.

Yeah, lived there Plebe year and 1st Class. . . lovely view of the sound and the Manhattan skyline, with the bridges. . . but I believe that we have had this discussion. . .

Palmer is home to REG now

The whole building? Zero deck of Palmer used to be Reg row. That was the only downside plebe year as it made one doorway/ladder off limits which happened to be the most convenient for going to Fulton-Gibbs.

The whole building except for zero deck. Zero deck of palmer is now administrative offices... E.g commandant, RO, m/n personnel, now uniform and book issue is there too due to zero deck renovation (the actual zero deck that connects the rest of the barracks to Delano and the ship's store.

Really. In my day, Zero Deck of Palmer (over on the Wiley Hall side) was where the NOAA trainees lived. Reg Row was main deck of Murphy Hall. Are there still ward rooms? We had one for each battalion.

We had one for each company, although there were a few upperclassmen whose rooms were practically ward rooms on their own.

Yeah. . . I have heard about some of those. . . in fact, mine was often better lardered than the official Ward Room. . . I just didn't have a TV or many snacks, but they were available in the wing. . . .
